What if they emptied the White House of all it’s contents when they shut the lights off. They could dismantle every fireplace mantel, light fixtures, door hardware, all the historic stuff that can’t be replaced, etc. Let the maniacs destroy a completely gutted White House. Everything else could be rebuilt and upgraded. The alternative is to protect the White House with force and end up with a lot of dead rioters.
