'Can't Stand to See This Punk in Office': Snoop Dogg Says He'll Vote For First Time in 2020

The US presidential election is scheduled for 3 November 2020, with incumbent President Donald Trump facing Democratic nominee Joe Biden, who has formally cinched the nomination, having secured the necessary number of delegates.

US rapper and cultural icon Snoop Dogg revealed that he has never voted in a presidential election, but will do so in November, noting that he "can't stand to see" Donald Trump in the office for four more years.

In a radio interview to Real 92.3, the rapper - who received felony drug-related convictions in 1990 and 2007 - said that he "was brainwashed" to believe that he was not allowed to vote earlier because of his criminal record.

"I ain't never voted a day in my life, but this year I think I'm going to get out and vote because I can't stand to see this punk in office one more year", 'Snoop', whose real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., said during the interview.

As a Californian resident, the rapper would not be able to vote only if he was in state or federal prison, or if he was on parole. Since his criminal records have been "expunged" following his widespread charity work, he has had his voting rights restored.

The rapper, who has sold close to 60 million albums worldwide and in the US, expressed his support for participants of the ongoing Black Lives Matter anti-police-brutality protests, noting, however, that he is not interested in protesting. The rapper implied that he would help the movement by using "my power to do what I'm great at" and using his music platform to spread the message. Snoop encouraged everyone to stay safe during both the protests and pandemic.

His intention to vote comes as the US presidential election is set for 3 November 2020. Earlier, the Democratic candidate, former US Vice President Joe Biden, formally clinched the nomination by securing the required amount of delegates. When chosen by his party to be the nominee, Biden will face Trump in the election.

US corporate media act as ‘mouthpieces of intelligence services’ on foreign policy & national security – ex-WSJ journalist to RT

American private media often “launder” misinformation fed by the secret services, while politicians pressure Facebook to act as its proxy against foreign outlets, author and former Wall Street Journal reporter Joe Lauria told RT.

“Private corporate media, on their foreign policy and national security reporting, are virtually mouthpieces of the intelligence services,” Lauria told RT.

They launder misinformation and disinformation from the intelligence services in the US, which gains credibility if you read it in the New York Times and not directly from the CIA. They have a state function as well even if they’re corporate-owned. So this is clearly an anti-Russian, anti-Chinese, anti-Iranian thing.

Facebook earlier reported that it is labeling content posted by “state-controlled” media in order to battle “foreign influence” in the US 2020 presidential election. Pages of Russian media outlets, including RT and Sputnik, as well as Chinese media, have already been marked with such labels.

Lauria noted that social media giants like Facebook and Twitter enact such measures because they are being “heavily pressured” by US Congress as the politicians want private companies to de-facto serve “as proxies of the US government to do the censoring for them.”

German officials call US troop withdrawal a ‘wake-up call for Europeans’ & chance to loosen ties

While some in the German establishment fumed over the US presumably keeping Berlin uninformed about plans to withdraw thousands of troops, others envisioned it as a chance to loosen ties with their turbulent NATO ally.

Washington didn’t bother to inform Berlin of its intent to redeploy thousands of troops from Germany to other locations, with the news coming out of the blue for the government, German media reported on Saturday. Previously, Reuters and the Wall Street Journal reported that some of the 9,500 service members would be sent to Poland, some to other allied nations, and the rest would eventually return home.

Keeping Germans in the dark is “quite unusual,” but the rationale behind it is easy to recognize, Andreas Nick, a high-ranking member of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Christian Democrats (CDU), said. Everything here suggests “that it was not technical, but a purely politically motivated decision,” he told Deutsche Welle.

Lamenting the move, Nick said US soldiers and their families are “welcome” in Germany.

Dietmar Bartsch, who leads the non-mainstream Left Party, wasn’t as reserved. He fired off a somewhat incendiary tweet, saying the government should thank Washington and lay the groundwork for “a full withdrawal of US soldiers” during talks with the Trump administration.

If it happens, the departing troops “should take the American atomic bombs with them at the same time,” Bartsch added.

His sentiment was somewhat echoed by Johann Wadephul, who co-heads the ruling coalition’s faction in the parliament. Trump and his team are “neglecting a fundamental management task: the involvement of the allies in decision-making processes,” he stated. For him, the news provides an opening to make Europe less dependent on the US.

However, it is a further wake-up call to us Europeans to take our fate more decisively in terms of security policy as well.

Jack Dorsey cries fake news after Trump accuses Twitter of censoring George Floyd campaign video

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has responded to accusations made by US President Donald Trump of one-sided censorship and illegally removing a George Floyd-related Trump campaign video from the social media platform.

“This was pulled because we got a DMCA complaint from [a] copyright holder,” Dorsey tweeted to the president on Friday night.

Trump accused the social media platform of illegally censoring the video, a point Dorsey disagrees with.

The video in question is around four minutes in length and shows images from protests around the nation over Floyd’s killing, while the president speaks about the tragedy of the Minneapolis man’s death.

The clip was also taken down from Instagram and Facebook over a similar Digital Millennium Copyright Act complaint.
