On October 26, 1881, at 3:00 PM, two marshals and a deputy, stood up to the notorious Clanton gang in the small mining town of Tombstone, Arizona, and enforced the law that the local sheriff refused/was afraid to. The resulting shootout in a dusty alleyway next to the O.K. Coral Livery and Feed Company consisted of 30 shoots and only lasted for about 30 seconds. This brief encounter became one of the most iconic gun fights in the west and has come to be known as “The Gunfight at the O.K. Coral”.

Beyond the simple function of enforcing the law, the gunfight set in motion the doctrine that the US Marshal Service has jurisdiction everywhere in the US including state police and local sheriffs jurisdictions. It wasn’t by coincidence that when the US Marshal Service was looking for a visual to represent their mission, they chose the likeness of Wyatt Earp (one of marshals who fought in the gunfight) as a model for the “Frontier Marshal” statue.

But they are not dressed like the BULLIES in the police force with obvious lethal weapons on display or obvious armor and helmets. They look more like your neighbors on a camping trip

However I can see numerous places where hidden weapons could be carried. Telescoping batons, handguns. The leg guards are weapons as are the bulletproof or stab proof vests. Even a water canteen can be a weapon to a soldier trained in hand to hand combat.
These guys are not there JUST to enforce the law, which they will likely be doing very quietly and subtle around the perimeter, identifying bad actors and arresting them before they get to the meetpoints to begins their mayhem.
These guys are also there to send a message to police forces around the nation. This is how you KEEP THE PEACE among your fellow citizens
