Doesn't seem it would make much sense to just turn them back and let them cause a mess elsewhere in their frustration.
But where to put them? Someplace prepped in advance a bit.
But I'm just guessing and babbling with surface knowledge. Listen to someone with deep knowledge (Jeff) give a deep explanation of what POTUS and the high level patriots are actually dealing with - What antifa really is.
