Turkish presidency infuriated over raising of ‘Byzantine flag’ over mosque in Cyprus

BEIRUT, LEBANON (5:30 P.M.) – The Turkish presidency described raising the “Byzantine flag” over a mosque in the Cypriot city of Larnaca, as “showing hatred for Islam and Turkey,” noting that “stopping these attacks is a natural right.”

The head of the communication department in the Turkish presidency, Fakhreddine Alton, said on Monday via Twitter that “the suspension of the flag on the Tuzla mosque shows the deep grudge and hatred towards Islam and towards Turkey by the people of the distasteful mentalities that inherited shame and attacks on ideas, beliefs and looting. And genocide in the pages of history for thousands of years. ”

“Turkey continues with all its might the struggle to transform the region into a zone of peace and security,” Alton said, noting that “the epic struggle that Turkey is presenting today in the eastern Mediterranean is an expression of the blessed inspiration it drew from its civilization.”

He noted that “Islam, which was a source of peace and security and the horizon of ancient civilization, will continue to enlighten the years and combat all kinds of systematic attacks,” saying that “the attack on Islam and Muslims has become an institutional structure that is increasing day by day in the name of the so-called freedom of opinion.

Samsung Heir Appears in Court for Hearing on His Arrest Amid Succession Probe, Reports Say

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Vice Chairman of Samsung Electronics Lee Jae-yong, the de facto leader of South Korea's largest conglomerate, Samsung Group, has appeared in the Seoul Central District Court for a hearing on his arrest amid allegations of his involvement in a merger and accounting fraud in a bid to take over control of the group, media reported.

According to the Yonhap news agency, the hearing is likely to last several hours, with the announcement of the court's decision expected late on 8 June or early on 9 June.

Lee Jae-yong is currently under investigation concerning the controversial merger of two Samsung affiliates, Cheil Industries and Samsung C&T Corporation, in 2015, which was considered to be a key step in his takeover of the group from his ailing father, Lee Kun-hee.

Last week, the Seoul prosecutors requested an arrest warrant for the Samsung heir, saying he should be imprisoned again due to the seriousness of his alleged wrongdoings and the possibility of destroying relevant evidence. In addition, prosecutors sought arrest warrants for two former Samsung executives, Choi Gee-sung and Kim Jong-joong, as they believe all three have been involved in efforts to help Lee succeed his father, who suffered a heart attack in 2014.

‘Huge’ Egyptian military convoy heads to border of Libya: media

BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:30 P.M.) – The official page for the Turkish-backed Government of National Accord’s operations room said that “a huge Egyptian military convoy deployed to the borders with Libya.”

According to the “Volcano Anger” operations room, the Egyptian Army traveled to the Libyan border to support the Libyan National Army, but they did not enter the war-torn nation.

They claimed that mission of these forces is confined only to strengthening “military points between the two countries.”

Accounts on social media had published videos that they claimed were a large column of Egyptian tank carriers heading to the border with Libya, and trains transporting equipment and military vehicles moving in the same direction.

However, a source has denied the authenticity of the videos, saying that one of them is clearly old footage of an Egyptian military exercise that was carried out a few years ago.

Since the Cairo declaration, the pro-GNA media has alleged that Egypt is planning to intervene in the country to challenge the Turkish Armed Forces.

Despite these claims, there has been no statement from Cairo about a possible military deployment to Libya.

The Egyptian authorities maintain strong relations with the Libyan National Army and they continue to coordinate with them along the border.

GoFundMe Suspends Candace Owens’ Fundraiser After Controversial George Floyd Comments

GoFundMe has suspended conservative political commentator Candace Owens’s fundraiser for an Alabama cafe whose co-owner criticized the George Floyd protests. Owens also came under fire for controversial comments about Floyd while speaking with Glenn Beck.

Owens raised more than $200,000 for Birmingham’s Parkside Cafe, whose co-owner Michael Dykes said Floyd was a “thug” and protesters were “idiots” in a text message to a co-worker that was posted online. Three employees quit working and people online began boycotting the cafe after Dykes’ comments came out.

Owens also came under fire for controversial comments about Floyd, who died after a police officer kneeled on his neck for more than eight minutes.

“The fact that he has been held up as a martyr sickens me. George Floyd was not a good person, I don’t care who wants to spin that. I don’t care how CNN wants to make you think he changed his life around,” she said in an interview with Beck. “He was just after his sixth or fifth stint in prison.”

Marine Corps officially bans Confederate flags from all bases

The U.S. Marine Corps has officially ordered the removal of all Confederate flags from its bases, including depictions of flags such as on items like bumper stickers, clothing, posters, and mugs.

The Marine Corps announced the order to remove any Confederate flag displays from its bases on Friday. The order was also published on social media accounts such as Facebook and Twitter.

“The Confederate battle flag has all too often been co-opted by violent extremist and racist groups whose divisive beliefs have no place in our Corps,” the order states. “Our history as a nation, and events like the violence in Charlottesville in 2017, highlight the divisiveness the use of the Confederate battle flag has had on our society.

“This presents a threat to our core values, unit cohesion, security and good order and discipline,” the order continues. “This must be addressed. Reference(a) charges commanders with the authority and responsibility to take reasonable, necessary, and lawful measures to maintain law and order, and to protect installation personnel and property. The Marine Corps shall remove the Confederate battle flag from all installation public spaces and work areas in order to support our core values, ensure unit cohesion and security, and preserve good order and discipline.”

Chinese army carries out large-scale drill at border with India

The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China has carried out a large-scale drill involving thousands of paratroopers to check its preparedness in transporting soldiers and armoured vehicles from a central Chinese province to border areas to the northwest of the country.

The largescale “maneuver operation” was done in the backdrop of the ongoing border standoff with India, the nationalistic tabloid Global Times and national broadcaster CCTV said in reports.

The news on Chinese state media came out on a day when New Delhi said that India and China will continue military and diplomatic engagements to resolve a weeks-old standoff along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

This was after talks were held between delegations led Lieutenant General Harinder Singh, commander of Leh-based 14 Corps and a delegation led by Major General Liu Lin, commander of the South Xinjiang military region, at Moldo on the Chinese side of the LAC on Saturday.

The reports didn’t give the location where the soldiers and the armoured vehicles were transported to but said enough to indicate that the drill was a message to India.

Find, Fix, Finish: How to hunt down and kill terrorists

Radio frequency and direction finding (RFDF) has been around since the early days of aviation. Today, communication intercept (COMINT), metadata collection, target, and identification/location play a major role in special operations and in the War on Terror. Bulk collection is essential for developing the “big picture,” as satellites, national agencies, and tactical forces complete the structure.

Bulk cell-phone collection was in the news again following the San Bernardino massacre, with a focus on our inability to trace records past a certain timeframe. More to the point, a recovered cell phone was involved in French tactical units’ timely response following the Paris attacks, which led to a massive number of arrests and a successful final assault on the terrorists’ building in Saint-Denis. Much of the intelligence was likely derived from COMINT. Let’s examine how this works. For this discussion, we’ll focus on cell phones versus traditional field-radio communications.

Although metadata collection does not involve listening in on a phone conversation, while challenging, the listening capability certainly exists from both a national and tactical standpoint. Every commercial cell phone has an international mobile equipment identity (IMEI), equipment serial number (ESN), or mobile equipment identifier (MEID). Whichever term is used, it represents your cell’s fingerprint. The purpose is to make the equipment uniquely identifiable.

Employees of media company call for its own Blue Lives Matter website to be shut down, deplatformed: Website is a ‘disgrace’

Employees at Maven Media Brands — the company that owns Maxim and Sports Illustrated — are demanding one of their brand’s websites, Defense Maven, be shuttered amid the George Floyd protests.

Defense Maven is a highly popular pro-law enforcement website also known as Blue Lives Matter.

What are the details?

According to a Monday New York Post report, the call came during a Friday staff meeting on site revenue.

The company announced a 15 percent salary cut to offset advertising losses due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the Daily Beast.

After the company announced the mandatory cut, many employees railed against the existence of Blue Lives Matter and called the website a “disgrace,” with a comments section rife with “racist” remarks.

“Blue Lives Matters’ comment sections are full of people calling for the extermination of people like me,” another employee reportedly said.

Defense Maven has been a part of Maven Media Brands’ portfolio since 2017.
