OLYMPIA, Wash. — Gov. Jay Inslee said Monday that he plans to convene a task force to come up with proposals to reduce the number of incidents of police brutality in the wake of the killing of a black man in Minneapolis by four city police officers. two weeks ago.
Speaking during an afternoon news conference, Inslee said he hopes the panel will produce concrete suggestions which can then be submitted to the state legislature for consideration and ratification. Floyd died two weeks ago when former Officer Derek Chauvin, 44, and three other ex-police officers were trying to arrest him.
The incident was captured on camera and shared on social media, triggering massive coast-to-coast protests that have raged for several days, including several in the Seattle area.
Inslee said the make-up of the panel would include several minority members but he did not elaborate on when the panel would be created or exactly who would be on the committee.
