The Y is fake add or, more specifically, doesn't have relevance without the rest of the picture. there are loads of this style of art over the centuries if one looks to seek the info. It is philosophical in origin, to help bring out Devine traits in humans (virtuous action, good morals, association and recognition of the All (or whatever diety you believe in, being they are predominately one in the same) in hermetic alchemy.

the sun has been worshiped for most/all religions, which makes sense when you think in terms of what the sun does for us (life and growth, cuppled with the Earth and all she provides to us, the moon for her light in the darkness to remind us of the coming sunrise, and removal of the darkness).
