It's pretty clear that the USSS didn't have a full line of sight of what was going on in front of the fencing, coupled with the fires that were set in Lafayette park at night.

There is an unspoken thing about the threats that they were seeing that hasn't really made the news (not that they would report on it)

Deputy Secretary of State Jordan Fuchs said the problems were caused by poll workers who didn’t know how to set up the equipment. She said she wasn’t aware of technical errors.
“There’s nothing wrong with the machines. It’s all user error,” Fuchs said.
