The vid in last bread jogged my memory.

In the 1950's I saluted the flag with two fingers as a Cub Scout. I also learned this:

On my honour I promise that I will do my best—

To do my duty to God and my Country

To help other people at all times and

To obey the Scout Law.

As a Boy Scout in the '50's and '60's, I saluted the flag with three fingers, and gave this pledge:

On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.

In 1966 I saluted the flag with my whole hand and took this oath:

"I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."

Re-reading those promises, pledges and oath's I made, I still don't see an expiration date. Remember your duty.
