After 34 years of conspiracy theories, Swedes just learned who killed Olof Palme, their former prime minister.
At a highly anticipated press briefing in Stockholm on Wednesday, prosecutor Krister Petersson said the assassin was Stig Engstrom, a former employee of Skandia who committed suicide two decades ago. Engstrom had worked as a graphic designer for the firm. Because he is no longer alive, the case will now be closed.
“We can’t get around one person as the perpetrator. He is Stig Engstrom,” Petersson told reporters.

Stock market will hit new highs if Trump wins 2020 presidential election, chief strategist tells Boom Bust
The National Bureau of Economic Research said this week that the US economy entered a recession in February as the coronavirus struck the nation, ending its longest expansion on record.
RT’s Boom Bust is joined by Todd Horwitz of Bubba Trading to talk about the state of the US economy and what direction it might take.
“Nobody really knows the answer to that,” he points out, adding that there’s more action in the market and people are starting to go to work. “So, again, if the virus stays away and we can continue to open and get the country fully open, then the recession will be over… Overall, we are still very strong.”
Talking about the possibility of market volatility, Horwitz notes that a lot will depend on who wins the US election in November. “I believe if Donald Trump wins the election again, it will be back off to the races and we'll continue to make new highs because of the way he tries to run the government” and because he is “more business friendly.”

The Nelson Mandela Foundation has courted controversy by endorsing the use of violence for political struggles, in a statement on the Black Lives Matter movement.
The statement says that the demonstrations against racism and police brutality that have sprung up in the wake of the death of George Floyd are part of a “growing rage” against white supremacy across the globe.
The foundation, which was established to guard the legacy of Nelson Mandela, South Africa’s first democratically-elected president, argues that the case of South Africa illustrates that state violence in aid of white supremacy can be found even in countries where black people “hold the levers of government and of the state more broadly.”

Pompeo Calls Sacked Inspector General Linick 'Bad Actor', Says He Should Have Been Fired Earlier
Linick was removed from his post by President Donald Trump in mid-May, claiming that he had lost complete confidence in him. The official was reportedly looking into possible misconduct by Trump administration officials, including Pompeo himself.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo described the former inspector general for the Department of State, Steve Linick, as a "bad actor" and argued that he shouldn't have been allowed to keep his post for as long as he did.
Pompeo's remarks were preceded by Linick testifying before a Democrat-led Congressional probe in which he said that the Department of State had discouraged him from looking into certain actions of the Trump administration. The former inspector general said that the department didn't want him to investigate the White House’s decision to use emergency powers to sell $8 billion worth of arms to Saudi Arabia, despite opposition from lawmakers.
Earlier, The Daily Caller reported that the Department of State is mulling legal action against Linick on two accounts of alleged misconduct. Citing two obtained letters, the media outlet said that the department has alleged that Linick violated the terms of his administrative leave and the chain of command.

Communist China says Hong Kong protests are ‘threat to national security’
The ruling Chinese Communist Party is imposing a draconian new sedition and subversion law on Hong Kong because Beijing views recent protests in the city as a threat to national security, a top official in charge of implementing policy for the city said on Monday.
Zhang Xiaoming, a deputy director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office under China’s cabinet, the State Council, said Beijing’s announcement of the law last month was “based on the fact that the actions of internal and external enemies of Hong Kong have caused prolonged chaos there, and endangered national security.”
Zhang accused the protesters, the majority of whom have engaged in peaceful demands for fully democratic elections and greater police accountability in the face of widespread violence by riot police, of “showing obvious signs of terrorism.”
But “even more serious” was the advocacy of self-determination and independence by some groups, who had “insulted and burned the Chinese flag,” Zhang said in a speech marking the 30th anniversary of Hong Kong’s mini-constitution, the Basic Law.

BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:45 P.M.) – A new video that was released this week showed the moment a Russian air defense system shot down a Turkish drone over Libya.
In the video, the Libyan National Army (LNA) can be seen operating their Russian-made Pantsir-S1E system and later downing the Turkish drone over their positions.
The drone was likely shot down over the city of Sirte, which the Turkish-backed Government of National Accord (GNA) forces have been trying to capture for much of the week.

Shootings Surge, Murders up over 100 Percent as Protesters Flood NYC
Shootings surged and murders were up over 100 percent in New York City last week as protesters flooded the streets, along with rioters who shattered windows and destroyed property.
The New York Post reports there were 13 murders from Monday, June 1, 2020, to Sunday night, June 7, 2020. There were five murders during that same time period in 2019.
Moreover, there were 40 shootings in NYC from June 1 to June 7, 2020. In 2019 “there were 24 shootings.”
The Post reported, “The increase in violence came as demonstrators marched city streets to protest the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis.”
The paper described the majority of protests as “peaceful,” but noted peaceful protesters were, at times, “overshadowed by looting and the destruction of stores in several boroughs.”
On June 9, 2020, Breitbart News reported Los Angeles witnessed a 250 percent surge in murders and a 56 percent increase in shooting victims during protest week.

Army scientists: All strains of COVID-19 can be covered by one vaccine
Army scientists say that they are “very optimistic” that they will have a vaccine by the end of the year that will be effective against any COVID-19 strain.
The vaccine candidate, currently being tested in hundreds of mice, was developed by Army scientists. The Army is also working to accelerate and evaluate candidates being produced by AstraZeneca and other pharmaceutical companies under the White House’s “Operation Warp Speed” program, which aims to have a vaccine ready by year’s end.
A vaccine that could handle multiple strains is important because some reports suggest that there may be as many as eight strains circulating around the globe, but, scientists don’t know enough yet to be sure of that. Other reports have surfaced appearing to show re-infection, which is contradicted by other findings. There are also, of course, a wide variety of health outcomes for the infected, based on exposure and other factors.
“We’ve done a lot of work that you’ll hear about in the near future showing that all the [COVID-19-linked] viruses circulating in the world can be covered by a single vaccine,” Dr. Kayvon Modjarrad, director of emerging infectious diseases at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, told reporters on a call on Tuesday.
