Australian mining company takes green activists to court seeking R14.25m in damages
Cape Town - History was made on Tuesday when a South African court began hearing a Strategic Litigation against Public Participation (Slapp) suit brought by an Australian mining company against six environmental activists.
The mining company, Mineral Resources Commodities (MRC), its chief executive Mark Caruso, and local subsidiary Mineral Sands Resources (MSR) with its director Zamile Qunya, are suing the defendants over alleged defamatory statements made in relation to its current Tormin operations on the West Coast, and its proposed Xolobeni operations in the Wild Coast region of the Eastern Cape.
Advocate Steven Budlender, representing the defendants, said: “These cases are about three actions launched by a group of mining companies and their directors in which they seek R14.25 million in damages from three environmental attorneys and three activists in total.

Liberal Who Wants to Cut $150 Million From LAPD Budget Gets Private Security
Nationwide hysteria has given many liberals in positions of power nationwide the green-light to enact a handful of radical policies they’ve long wanted a catalyst for.
In Los Angeles, city council president Nury Martinez introduced a motion instructing the City Administrative Officer and Chief Legislative Analyst to find upwards of $150 million in cuts to the LAPD budget.
Today we intrdcd a motion to cut funding to the LAPD, as we reset our priorities in the wake of the murder of #GeorgeFloyd & the #BlackLivesMatter call that we all support to end racism. This is just one small step. We cannot talk about change, we have to be about change. pic.twitter.com/hR1tBAqwHP

A Los Angeles Police Department unit, often staffed by two officers, was ordered to stand watch outside L.A. City Council President Nury Martinez’s private home from April until June, multiple LAPD sources have confirmed to Spectrum News 1.
The private security detail infuriated some members of the force when Martinez became one of the council members to spearhead a motion to cut $150 million in funding to the LAPD’s budget.

Mississippi may become final state to remove Confederate symbol from flag
The last state in the country to still feature the symbol of the old Confederacy on its official flag may soon be changing that distinction. A group of Republican and Democratic lawmakers in Mississippi have announced they are crafting legislation that would remove the recognizable Confederate symbol from their flag.
The move comes as there has been renewed interest in purging relics and statues honoring the Confederacy from southern states amid national protests over racial inequities.
This is not the first time Mississippi has considered a new flag design. In 2001, voters in the state chose to retain the Confederate symbol on their flag by a 2-to-1 margin. Gov. Tate Reeves says that vote informs his decision not to take any action on the issue himself.
"If and when Mississippians decide that they want to change the flag, and I think at some point they will, it ought to be the people of Mississippi," Reeves said.

Ministers face criminal investigation into misuse of public funds on Facebook
Magisterial inquiry into use of funds for personal Facebook pages
Ministers and parliamentary secretaries are facing a criminal investigation over their alleged misuse of funds, after a probe found that four of them used public money to boost material uploaded directly to their private Facebook pages.
A magisterial inquiry led by magistrate Doreen Clarke with investigations by the Economic Crimes Unit is widening the investigation conducted by Standards Commissioner George Hyzler.
In May, Hyzler found that Infrastructure Minister Ian Borg, Environment Minister Aaron Farrugia, Economy Minister Silvio Schembri and Finance Minister Edward Scicluna all incorrectly used public resources on social media.
Education Minister Owen Bonnici was not found to have misused public resources.
Following the probe, Hyzler had referred the matter to the National Audit Office for a wider investigation. The NAO had, in turn, referred it to the police, saying it did not have the capacity to conduct a criminal investigation into the matter.
The Nationalist Party had called on the NAO to give this investigation utmost priority.

‘Our history will not be tampered with!’ Trump rules out renaming US military bases named after Confederate generals
US President Donald Trump has declared opposition to renaming a dozen military bases that bear the names of Civil War generals who fought for the Confederacy, saying they are part of history and a proud military heritage.
Mentioning Fort Bragg, Fort Hood and Fort Benning by name, Trump tweeted on Wednesday that the “Monumental and very Powerful Bases have become part of a Great American Heritage” and “history of Winning, Victory, and Freedom.”
“My Administration will not even consider the renaming of these Magnificent and Fabled Military Installations,” he added.
It has been suggested that we should rename as many as 10 of our Legendary Military Bases, such as Fort Bragg in North Carolina, Fort Hood in Texas, Fort Benning in Georgia, etc. These Monumental and very Powerful Bases have become part of a Great American Heritage, and a…

Top EU official BACKS Twitter in fact-checking ‘war’ with Trump, says Europe should take same approach
Twitter has received unexpected support in its fact-checking war with US President Donald Trump. The EU Commission’s vice president for values and transparency,Vera Jourova, said it has taken exactly the approach Europe needs.
Jourova, who leads the bloc’s own crusade against disinformation, waded into the Trump-Twitter dispute, praising the instant messaging service for “promoting the facts” instead of taking down the president’s tweets altogether.
“I support the Twitter reaction to tweets of President Trump,” she said during a press conference. “They did not delete it. We all can see it. They provided fact-checked information and promoted facts.” Jourova went further, stating that everyone, including politicians and top officials, “should be accountable” to fact-checkers.

Video: Temporary Fencing Removed From White House Complex Ahead of Weekend Protests
Workers have started removing the temporary fencing around the White House complex, but Secret Service officials say that other barriers will remain ahead of additional scheduled protests this weekend.
“The temporary fencing on the south side of the White House complex, to include the Ellipse, will be removed on or about June 10,” a Secret Service spokesperson told Fox News on Wednesday. “The Secret Service is in continuing discussions with the US Park Police regarding the temporary security fencing in and around Lafayette Park.”

Don’t Believe Fake Polls: Trump Gets 140,000 More Votes From Enthusiastic Supporters Than Biden In GA Primary…Crushes Obama’s 2012 Primary Vote Total
Presidential race polling results leading up to the 2016 election were incredibly inaccurate. Yet, here we are, four years later talking about how the disoriented Democrat Joe Biden is leading in the polls against President Trump, who presided over a booming economy responsible for historically low unemployment numbers for Blacks, Hispanics, and women.
Here are a couple of examples of how the media portrayed the race only days before the election
