the thames boat- winterwonderland saga seems like a massive extended slide. its been ongoing for weeks and has led nowhere yet.

please summarize the point of it in one or two short sentences or just call me a troll too. I have been tempted to filter you and I will if you dont explain its purpose and aim.

After reading your posts more carefully I had to conclude that this is not a slide , nor is it Boatshit , obviously not mere Prattery.

Also there is an obvious rude shill on this thread trying to manufacture a consensus. Its not working for me though. I hope someone can find a good use for the nifty astronomy app Stellarium.

the program free open source and is very easy to use. It is simple to tweak the location and time so that you find a match with stars that show up in an image.

You can also set the atmospheric attenuation or filter the display of stars to a magnitude (brightness) level.

Online version of Stellarium app

https://stellarium-web.org/

There are also mobile app versions available.

you can use this to track the movements of Venus or Orions belt over any target dates you choose. and the azimuth grid can show the elevation of items above the horizon line.

The application version of Stellarium has more features than the web version - for example can filter sky objects by brightness (magnitude)

However both versions display the night sky as if projected on on a planetarium dome. The display is virtual 3d projection of the sky as seen from the observers point of view . This view has an interctive UI and one can look in any direction of the compass , as well as up and down (elevation).

One can define the observers location with longitude/latitude coordinates.

The exact time of the view can also be set or changed quickly .

Planet ,star and constellation labels can be displayed or not and grids and overlays can be applied. For example the path of the ecliptic- the apparent path taken throughe sky by orbits of the planets.

there are two high tides each day and the same constellations come around daily and the time a particular constellation is for example due south varies by only minutes each day.

In central London if the weather allows one to view stars in a clear sky only the brightest .

stars will be visible due to light pollution.

The constellation Hydra is certainly visible due south in the winter months but I have not been able to find a good match as yet with Stellarium and the Trafficam Pic

I am here every day but only post if I have something to say.Pattern matching a picture to sky map is hard. BTW Stellarium allows one to view the sky in real time or in accelerated time.

Maybe other anons would like to try out

There is also a mobile web app for Phone fags
