The Silent Majority needs to own the streets with a sea of people.

We need to show that all Americans are united

NOT divided.

Thousands of protesters came out despite oppressive heat Saturday to protest against police brutality in D.C. It was the largest day of demonstrations since the May 25 killing of George Floyd in police custody in Minneapolis.

Protests erupted in Minnesota shortly after Floyd’s death, and the unrest spread to cities across the country in the following days. Saturday marked the ninth consecutive day of protests in the District, and the day of Floyd’s memorial service in his home state of North Carolina, where long lines gathered to view his body.

After a string of violent clashes between police and protesters, protests have remained largely peaceful over the last few days, both in D.C. and across the country, during the week after Floyd’s death.

There were no arrests during demonstrations on Thursday and Friday in D.C., and Mayor Muriel Bowser canceled the curfew that had been in place since Monday.

George Floyd's brother says he believes Derek Chauvin's motivation was 'personal'

Philonise Floyd told lawmakers he believes Derek Chauvin kept his knee on his brother George Floyd’s neck for “personal” reasons.

Philonise Floyd told lawmakers Wednesday he believes former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin’s motivation to hold his knee on his brother George Floyd’s neck for nearly nine minutes was “personal.”

Floyd testified before the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday morning in the Capitol about the need for police reform after his brother died at the hands of Minneapolis police on Memorial Day.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) asked Floyd during the hearing if he could think of a reason why Chauvin would hold his knee on his brother’s neck for so long.

“No, sir. I don’t really know why he did it,” Floyd answered. “But personally, I think it was personal because they worked at the same place. So for him to do something like that, it had to be premeditated.”

George Floyd and Chauvin worked security at the same nightclub for years before their deadly encounter.

A former co-worker told CBS News this week that the two had a history of not getting along.

“They bumped heads … It has a lot to do with Derek being extremely aggressive within the club with some of the patrons, which was an issue,” former co-worker David Pinney told CBS Evening News.

When Pinney was asked if there was any doubt in his mind that Chauvin knew Floyd, he said the former officer knew him “pretty well.”

The Floyd family has said they believe Floyd’s death was partly personal, and their attorney has called for the former officer to be charged with first-degree murder, “because we believe he knew who George Floyd was,” CBS Evening News reports.

“I know that he knew him,” Philonise Floyd said Wednesday during the hearing. “Everybody knew him … And it has to be racist. It has to be something to do with racism.”

Chauvin was caught on camera kneeling on Floyd’s neck. The incident sparked widespread outrage and large-scale protests against police brutality and racial injustice across the country.
