yes the confederates were Democrats but they are also representative of the many southerners that fought and died in the war. Most of these soldiers only fought because their friends, neighbors and family were and they had nothing to do with slavery. They were given official US veteran status after the war to help heal the divide. These are monuments honoring legitimate American veterans and also serve as a reminder of our history.
