Syrian Emergency Task Force

Political Advocacy

We work with Congress, White House, and State Department as well as NGOs and the U.N. to advocate for the protection of civilians in Syria to end the humanitarian disaster and stop the ever-increasing refugee crisis.

The Syrian Emergency Task Force was originally established to advocate on behalf of the Syrian people in the United States Government. We have never lost sight of that objective. We believe that it is the responsibility of the United States to play a leadership role in the world to help stop the slaughter of civilians in Syria because an end to the violence serves both US National Interests and aligns with our core values and principles that our country was founded on. Protecting civilians is also key in our fight against terrorism in the region and globally.

Brief hundreds senior staffers in Congress, requesting civilian protection and safe zones to end the refugee flows and help bring about a political solution to the conflict.

We meet regularly with members of the House of Representatives and the United States Senate to brief them on the latest in Syria

Assisted in supporting and introducing of H.R. 1327, the Free Syria Act of 2013 in the House of Representatives

Organized and facilitated Senator John McCain’s trip inside Syria where he met with the leadership of the Armed Opposition

Regularly facilitate bi-partisan congressional delegations from both the House and Senate to the Northern and Southern borders of Syria to meet with Medical workers, refugees, as well as civilian and military leaders.

Played a major role in supporting the Caesar Civilian Protection Act of 2016 which recently passed the US House of Representatives with over two thirds unanimous bipartisan support

Help facilitate trips of opposition leadership, brave activists, and doctors from Syria to Washington. We organize meetings, hearings, and briefings in the US Congress, White House, State Department, and prominent think tanks in Washington DC.

We have successfully petitioned and lobbied for Temporary Protective Status for Syria.

Drawing inspiration from the heroes of the American Revolution, Mouaz has worked on Capitol Hill on behalf of the Egyptian and Libyan revolutions. Since the start of the revolution in his home country, he has worked the back-rooms of Washington trying to bring the Syrian revolution to the forefront of political discourse.

As the Executive Director of the Syrian Emergency Task Force (SETF), Mouaz advocates on behalf of the pro-democratic movement inside of Syria. Working with his expansive network of activists, opposition figures, and Free Syrian Army soldiers, Mouaz and SETF provide aid to the millions of Syrians in need humanitarian assistance and are working to build a system of civilian councils to help with transitional governance inside Syria.

The Man Who Took John McCain into Syria

Even though I had known about his work for some time, the first time I met Mouaz Moustafa in person was a few months ago in June 2013 at the Brookings Institution U.S.-Islamic World Forum in Doha, Qatar. Only a few weeks earlier, Mr. Moustafa had successfully helped United States Senator John McCain (R-AZ) enter into Syria from Turkey to meet with members of Syrian resistance rebel forces.

As the executive director of the Syrian Emergency Task Force- an American nonprofit that helped organize the McCain trip- Mouaz Moustafa played an integral role in bringing Senator McCain into Syria and he recently spoke to me about how he was able to successfully bring McCain into a civil war in one of the bloodiest hotspots in the Middle East today.

“In my work as executive director for the Syrian Emergency Task Force and Political Director for United for a Free Syria, I am regularly on Capitol Hill advocating on behalf of the Syrian People,” Mouaz Moustafa told me during an interview explaining the beginnings of his interactions with the Arizona Senator’s office. “Senator McCain has [always] been very involved in Middle East affairs and has stood by the Syrian People’s revolution and so we had met the Senator and his staff in the past to discuss US Policy and Syria.”

When it came to actually visiting Syria in the midst of a civil war, Moustafa made it quite clear that it “was Senator McCain’s decision to go to Syria” and that the Syrian Emergency Task Force was “honored to be given the responsibility of coordinating his meetings with commanders from the Free Syria Army in [both] Turkey and Syria.”

In terms of actually safely getting Senator McCain into Syria, he mentioned that the “route to Syria was in a car convoy from Gaziantep [in southeast Turkey] to the Killis boarder crossing and into Syrian territory.” According to Moustafa, all together there were three separate meetings with Senator McCain and rebel forces.

The first meeting with McCain included 10 rebel commanders including General Salim Idriss, who is the Chief of Staff of the Supreme Military Council (SMC) of the Free Syrian Army, which is the primary Syrian umbrella rebel group. According to Moustafa, Senator McCain was the only person from the American side to engage in conversation with the FSA Commanders.

He said that the main conversations between Senator McCain and rebel commanders revolved around Iranian interference in Syria, as well as the increased presence of Hezbollah and the threat of future extremism. (Mr. Moustafa served as primary translator during these meetings with Senator McCain).

“The Senator and the Commanders had a great conversation which ended with Senator McCain promising not to rest until he can get the US government to show leadership in supporting the revolution and protecting the Syrian People,” Moustafa later concluded about the meetings.

According to him, Senator McCain “came away with a much more thorough understanding of the conflict and the situation on the ground. He was reassured that the United States Government has vetted the ‘good guys’ that we must support [in order to] to defeat the regime and marginalize any extremists. The Senator saw the challenges faced by the Syrian people against this oppressive regime and spoke to the Free Syria Army [officials] that have defected from the Regime’s army and took up arms to defend their families and the Syrian people.”

In his opinion, Senator John McCain came back to the United States “a much more informed and stronger advocate for the Syrian cause and this visit brought much needed media attention to the conflict in Syria,” said Moustafa. “I believe that the visit also brought greater pressure on the Obama Administration to have greater leadership when it comes to the situation in Syria.”

Even though the unnecessary bloodshed of the Syrian civil war still continues, if there is going to be any peaceful solution to the ongoing conflict, it is going to be people like Mouaz Moustafa who are going to be a part of the solution since he was the first person who was able to successfully take an American senator into Syria.

Rep. Adam Kinzinger is a CLUELESS Member of Congress who is Aiding and Abetting Enemies of U.S.

By Ben Barrack on October 2, 2014 in Featured, General

If you want proof that the Syrian rebels the pseudo-intellectuals in Congress want to arm are not friends of the U.S., just look at the history of Mouaz Moustafa, the Executive Director of the primary organization that is lobbying Washington, DC for support on behalf of the rebels. Moustafa heads the Syrian Emergency Task Force (SETF) that seeks the ouster of Bashar al-Assad.

Mouaz Moustafa: Executive Director of SETF after Gadhafi overthrown.

Moustafa’s group contributed to the mess that is Libya today. In 2011, Moustafa headed the Libyan Emergency Task Force (LETF) that sought the removal of Muammar Gadhafi. Regardless of your stance on Gadhafi, Libya is in far worse shape today than it was before. After Gadhafi’s removal, four Americans – including the U.S. Ambassador to Libya – were murdered in Benghazi. Less than two years later, the U.S. abandoned its Embassy in Tripoli, as Shoebat.com reported.

So what did Moustafa get for his troubles? Well, he moved on over to the SETF and has effectively duped – or lobbied significantly – members of Congress into believing the removal of Assad will be wonderful for Syria, just like Gadhafi’s removal was for Libya. Here is Moustafa posing with Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) recently in Turkey. Shockingly, Kinzinger is a former U.S. Air Force pilot who doesn’t even know he’s being deceived by the Muslim Brotherhood (Kinzinger was one of the Congressmen who voted to arm Syria’s rebels recently):

Back in March of 2011, the LETF held a protest outside the White House. Photos of the event are posted to the group’s facebook page.

Another figure who was in attendance was Esam Omeish. Omeish has a bit of a public relations rap sheet. He has been a board member of the Dar al-Hijrah mosque for years and is credited with hiring Anwar al-Awlaki as the imam there in 2001, as Shoebat.com has reported.

Omeish has also served as President of the Muslim American Society (MAS), which was founded by the current Imam at Dar al-Hijrah, Shaker Elsayed. Elsayed admitted that MAS was founded by members of the Muslim Brotherhood as Shoebat.com has reported.
