I saw George Floyd's family was awarded a folded flag. He did not serve or die in action. But, I saw a gold star mom's point of view and it made me really sad for her. Her son served our country for many years as a Marine. He took his life due to PTSD and she stated he would never be remembered on a memorial wall and her family nor son will ever get the type of recognition Mr. Floyd got. I know what happened in his case and he was a stellar soldier who did his duty for our county. She was attacked for her opinion and thoughts which is wrong on many levels. I have to say when WE have lost someone in war or to war, that flag and everything it symbolizes comes w it. But, most of all, respect comes w the courage they had. This has nothing to do w race.
Congressman Al Green hands the family a US flag that was flown over the Capitol. "I want the United States of America to show him the respect that he richly earned simply because he was born in this country, because he’s a human being, and because he is not expendable. That’s why this flag was flown," Green said in his speech.
