Maxine Waters: ‘Dishonorable’ Trump Jabbing at Black People with Juneteenth Rally

Friday on MSNBC, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) accused President Donald Trump of jabbing at black people by planning his upcoming rally in Tulsa, OK, on June 19, which is Juneteenth, a holiday that marks the end of slavery.

Host Joy Reid said, “It’s rather pointed that one of the rallies he’s choosing to do is in Tulsa, Oklahoma, a state that is not in contention, he doesn’t need to sway votes there. He’s going to win that state, and he’s doing it on Juneteenth. It is a pointed decision. What do you make of it?”

Maxine Waters said, “Well, you know, he’s such a dishonorable man. When he has an opportunity to basically undermine or harm or pay somebody back, he does it, and he’s not ashamed of that. And this has been his MO ever since he’s been elected. So you know Juneteenth, June 19, it is a day that we celebrate because that’s the time that we actually got the message, the information that the slaves had been freed. And, so, it’s a jab at us. It is like the president who has talked about our districts, called them rat holes, talked about the shit holes in terms of, you know, black countries, et cetera. This is another way to poke fun at us and to dishonor what we care about.”

Economist Purged from Chicago Fed for Criticizing ‘Defund the Police’

The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago ended its work with University of Chicago economics professor Harald Uhlig after he was targeted by left-wing peers for criticizing the Black Lives Matter movement’s call to “defund the police.”

As Breitbart News reported earlier this week, Uhlig had tweeted that he supported the Black Lives Matter movement, but that the “defund the police” slogan was counter-productive. That provoked critics to scour his past blogs and tweets.

Though he apologized for some of his past language on controversial political issues, Uhlig’s critics were not satisfied. They include former Fed Chair Janet Yellen and Nobel Prize winning economist Paul Krugman of the New York Times.

According to the Chicago Fed, its decision to part ways with Uhlig “reflects our determination that his views are not compatible with the Chicago Fed’s values and our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.”

In addition, Uhlig was suspended as editor of the Journal of Political Economy because a former student, weighing in during the debate over his views on Black Lives Matter, accused him of mocking Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in class in 2014.

A poll released Friday revealed that 64% of Americans oppose plans to “defund the police,” but 55% of Democrats approve.

The campaign against Uhlig was led by University of Michigan economics professor Justin Wolfers, a Times contributor.

Strait Tensions Soar: Taiwan Test Fires Missiles, Beijing Sends Warplane

Eight months after we penned a piece titled "Taiwan Warns Of Possible Invasion If China's Economy Continues To Deteriorate" – a virus pandemic has crippled the global economy and Taiwan on Thursday (June 11) conducted missile tests off several of its coasts as tensions between China and the US are rising in the Taiwan Strait.

The South China Morning Post (SCMP) is reporting that Taiwan has test-fired missiles off its eastern and southern coasts as the self-ruled island increases its defense capabilities against mainland China.

The tests were held near Taiwan's eastern county of Taitung and the Jiupeng military base in the southern part of the island on Thursday night.

Local media said the surface-to-air missiles were part of an interceptor system that would shield the island from a guided-missile attack by China.

In response to the missile tests, China People's Liberation Army (PLA) flew a warplane on Friday across the median line in the strait.

Taiwan's defense ministry immediately responded by scrambling fighter jets:

"We detected the Chinese Communist Yun-8 aircraft flying southwest into Taiwan this morning and immediately dispatched our fighter jets to shadow it and disperse through radio warning," the ministry said.

More confrontation is ahead in the strait, as Taiwan plans to hold annual war drills in July and September.

The Han Kuang drills "will test the country's asymmetric capabilities to ward off hostile forces at sea and along its beaches," the Ministry of National Defense recently said.

Beijing considers Taiwan a Chinese province – Taipei has grown even closer to Washington, which has infuriated Chinese officials.

Walmart replaces all cashiers with self-checkout in one store — and they may roll it out all over the country

How will this affect the minimum wage debate?

Superstore giant Walmart is testing out a new policy replacing all cashiers at one of their stores with self-checkout kiosks, and they're considering doing it all over the country.

The pilot program is being implemented at their store in Fayetteville, Arkansas, but if it is successful it could be heading to stores all across the country.

Customers that need assistance will still be able to get help from employees, said a spokesperson for Walmart.

The goal of the program is to increase safety in the wake of the coronavirus epidemic by limiting human interaction. An added benefit is an increase in speed of checking out purchases.

Feedback from customers and employees will be used to gauge the successfulness of the program.

The increase in self-checkout kiosks may have important ramifications for the nationwide minimum wage debate. Walmart is the largest private employer in the world with 2.2 million employees, and also the largest in the United States, with 1.3 million workers.

It will also have implications for the question of how many of the jobs that have been lost during the course of the coronavirus pandemic will be lost permanently.

In April 2019 Walmart announced that they would be expanding their fleet of robots to replace human workers in specific jobs.

Ex-Mossad man reveals role in events that led to death of AMIA prosecutor Nisman

TV says it was Mossad that tied Iran to Buenos Aires Jewish HQ terror attack; ex-agent says he gave Nisman material allegedly incriminating Kirchner in cover-up, with fatal result

Israel’s Mossad provided the intelligence information that enabled Argentine prosecutor Alberto Nisman to prove that Iran orchestrated the 1994 AMIA terrorist bombing in Buenos Aires, in which 85 people were killed, an Israeli TV documentary claimed. And an ex-Mossad agent gave Nisman incriminating information on former Argentine president Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner’s alleged efforts to cover up Iran’s role in the blast, in a sequence of events that ultimately led to Nisman’s assassination, the program also said.

The “Uvda” (Fact) documentary, broadcast Thursday night on Israel’s Channel 12, featured a lengthy interview with Uzi Shaya, a former Mossad agent who said he had extensive dealings with Nisman, and who acknowledged that documents he passed to Nisman, allegedly incriminating Kirchner, “may have caused his death.”

Argentine investigator Nisman identified the suicide bomber who blew up the AMIA Jewish center as Hezbollah operative Ibrahim Berro, and in a 2006 indictment traced the commissioning of the blast to a 1993 meeting of the Iranian leadership’s “Committee for Special Operations”; Iran was fuming at then-president Carlos Menem for halting cooperation with its nuclear program and for warming Argentina’s ties with Israel. Nisman’s allegations led to the issuing of international arrest warrants against some of the Iranians the following year for what remains the worst terror attack in Argentina’s history.

The “Uvda” report said it was the Mossad that identified the perpetrators and the orchestrators of the blast, and made the information available to Nisman.

In January 2015, Nisman was found dead in his Buenos Aires apartment, a day before he was due to testify to an Argentine congressional panel on then president Kirchner’s role in covering-up Iran’s responsibility for the attack. A government official initially asserted that Nisman’s death — by a single bullet to the head fired at close range — was suicide, but Argentina has subsequently acknowledged it was a homicide.

Al-Qaeda Factions In Syria’s Greater Idlib Establish New Operations Room

Several al-Qaeda-affiliated factions have established a new operations room in the northwestern Syrian region of Greater Idlib.

In a statement released late on June 12, the factions said that the new operations room, dubbed “Fa Ithbatu,” [be steadfast] was formed to “repel the assaults of the aggressors and break the plots of the occupiers.”

The operations room’s factions were named as the following:

Horas al-Din;

Ansar al-Din;

Ansar al-Islam;

Liwa al-Muqatlin al-Ansar;

Tansiqiyat al-Jihad.

The Fa Ithbatu operation room will likely be succeeding the so-called wa-Harid al-Mu’minin operations room, which was formed in 2018.

Large terrorist groups, like Horas al-Din and Ansar al-Islam, were founders of wa-Harid al-Mu’minin. The new operations room, however, will also include factions led by terrorists who recently defected from Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham.

Liwa al-Muqatlin al-Ansar is being led by Abu Malek al-Tali, a prominent field commander that left HTS earlier this year. Sources in HTS claimed that al-Tali returned to the group later. However, these claims were not apparently accurate.

Tansiqiyat al-Jihad is led by Abu al-Abd al-Ashda, a former commander of HTS’ Umar ibn al-Khattab Army. Last year, al-Ashda exposed HTS’ corruption in a video message that went viral. The group arrested him. However, he was released soon after.

Some opposition activists claimed that the operations room will also include several smaller units led by commanders who apparently defected from HTS in secret. However, these claims are yet to be verified.

The presence of factions which are known to be hostile to HTS, like Horas al-Din, as well as defectors from the group itself indicates that the Fa Ithbatu operations room will be hostile towards the group.

The new operations room will likely work to sabotage the current ceasefire in Greater Idlib, which was brokered by Russia and Turkey on March 5.
