Seattle police chief says rapes, robberies occurring inside "autonomous zone" and they cannot respond to calls
Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best told her fellow officers that it was "not my decision" to abandon the city's Third Precinct to activists and that the decision has prevented the department from responding to emergency calls inside the "autonomous zone."
"You should know, leaving the precinct was not my decision. You fought for days to protect it. I asked you to stand on that line," Best told officers via video. "Day in and day out, to be pelted with projectiles, to be screamed at, threatened and in some cases hurt. Then to have a change of course nearly two weeks in, it seems like an insult to you and our community."
Best, who was able to visit the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone, on Thursday, said "calls for service have more than tripled" since law enforcement abandoned the East Precinct.
"These are responses to emergency calls — rapes, robberies, and all sorts of violent acts that have been occurring in the area that we're not able to get to," Best told reporters on Wednesday.

Gospel radio host shot and killed in Baltimore
A Gospel radio show host Wednesday night was shot and killed in Northeast Baltimore, local law enforcement reported.
Tyra Womack, 57, an announcer on WEAA-FM's weekly "Gospel Grace" program for more than 30 years, was fatally shot following a neighborhood dispute.
Baltimore Police spokeswoman Detective Nicole Monroe said a patrol officer responding to a reported shooting around 10:00 p.m. found Womack shot multiple times.
She was found inside her home in what police are calling a "senseless, tragic murder." Medical personnel pronounced her dead at the scene.
The radio station offered their condolences and prayers to Womack's family.

The network is currently hosting a Pride campaign with videos centered on kids talking about LGBT issues, individuality, and inclusivity. Its website is also featuring a Pride Month playlist, with videos from "Steven Universe" and "Craig of the Creek."

Former police officer Tom Homan, speaking at Saturday’s pro-cop “We Back Blue” event in D.C., slammed progressive politicians for loudly calling for defunding police. He singled out House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and challenged them to “lead by example” by defunding their own protection first.
Homan, a former officer who spent over three decades serving his community, spoke at the event and blasted progressive politicians who have, in the wake of the George Floyd protests, largely vilified police officers and demonstrated support for defunding police departments across the nation.
“Schumer and Pelosi are not speaking up,” he told the audience, emphasizing, again, that “we’re all against” racism.
“No one’s going to justify that, but they’ll stand out on a moment’s notice and defend people that are in here in the country illegally in violation of law, but they won’t stand out there and defend the men and women who leave the safety and security of their home every day … to defend their communities,” he continued. “They haven’t said a word. “
He used far-left “Squad” member Ocasio-Cortez as another example of a progressive politician who has failed to defend officers, instead using her platform to champion defunding police departments.
“She says we should defund the police, and we should all make sacrifices. Okay. So lead by example,” he suggested.
