ATL shooting comments

I understand being in the moment.

I, personally, have been in the moment.

Not with a taser- with guns. (not telling the story, but I'm not lying.)

It made me want to get training and educate myself in high risk self-

defense.

But in the moment, when dude has really strong purchase on that taser,

you also have purchase on the taser. It's a one shot (or 2 sometimes)

taser, why not just fire it right into his hand? Worst that could happen is

you miss, but at least you try. The very least is you expend the cartridge. It's life or death in those situations. You never know…

You know if you're fighting over something whether or not you have control

of the item or not. Especially a gun-shaped object. I train on this exact

scenario sometimes. If I'm about to lose my gun in a struggle, I'm pulling

that trigger at least once so the slide blows back, potentially injuring the assailant, heating up the business end of the weapon so it's hot

to the touch, and expending ammunition so if it does get taken from me,

there's one less bullet in the magazine to shoot me with.

I understand the panic of the situation. That's something nobody can

replicate in training, and in training, your mind, body, and heart are all

aligned because you know you're just running through exercises. You

don't have to fend for your life in training. The instructor stops the exercise

and everybody resets to position 1. But it's pretty common training to

know when to draw the line of "OK I'm in real trouble here, survival mode

engage." Same thing when your house is on fire. GTFO NOW!!

Really easy for me to speculate, but it would seem the officer either

panicked or gave up the taser so his hands were free to do something

else.

It was a bad decision.

But we grant Police the training and tools to deal with any situation,

including de-escalating the situation so a calm apprehension can be

made.

We can't weaken the Police or we'll have CHAZ everywhere and nobody

will be able to do anything about it. In any other circumstance, this wouldn't

make the news. But in this climate, it feels like a FF because the riots

were dying and CHAZ is eating itself to death.

2 points with all that: Those cops made several dumb fucking mistakes

even a civilian like me wouldn't make. Also, it seems like these riots and

protests are the last piece on the board for the DS. We're at the end,

we just have to make it through this.
