Men like to be apart of a tribe or team that engages in battles. Sports allows males to satisfy this desire of experiencing victory and loss passively all from the couch. The sports fan's tribe members and enemies are other sports fans. They have no influence on the outcome of their battles but it makes no difference to them.
Q works like this in many ways. But the team is the United States and the tribe is patriots. It fulfills the need to enter into battle an illicit an outcome, but it is not passive like sports. Voting, campaigning, exposing corruption, memeing, digging, sharing info all have an effect on the battle.
Sports like CNN is just a distraction from engaging in the betterment of your community.
