Former NSW minister charged over new historical sex allegations, including child prostitution
Convicted paedophile and disgraced former NSW Labor minister Milton Orkopoulos has been charged with engaging in child prostitution among a string of new historic child sex offences dating back to the 1990s.
The charges relate to two juvenile boys who were allegedly known to him, the youngest aged under 14.
Police say the incidents occurred on separate occasions in Lake Macquarie and on the Mid North Coast, when the former minister allegedly caused a child to participate in prostitution and committed an aggravated sexual assault of a child, among other charges.
The 62-year-old was arrested at Silverwater Jail about 11am on Monday by strike force detectives who have been investigating the historic allegations since January.
It comes just six months after Orkpoulous was released on parole, following 11-and-a-half years behind bars for grooming and assaulting three boys between 1995 and 2006.
However, his freedom in the community was shortlived. In January, Orkopoulos was arrested and charged with failing to comply with his reporting obligations under the Child Protection (Offenders Registration) Act.
It was alleged the former minister used someone else's internet-enabled phone, which was forbidden under his parole conditions. His parole has since been revoked.
Three further charges were laid in February and Orkopoulos was refused bail. He has been in custody ever since.
NSW Police confirmed on Monday that Orkopoulos was assisting investigators with enquiries. He was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Tuesday.
The fresh charges relate to two new alleged victims who did not form part of Orkopoulos' earlier conviction. They include multiple counts of aggravated indecent assault and committing an act of indecency.
Orkopoulos was the NSW Aboriginal affairs minister in the Morris Iemma government, before he was jailed on May 21, 2008, for 13 years and eight months with a non-parole period of nine years.
He had been found guilty by a District Court jury of 28 charges including drug supply, sexual intercourse without consent, sexual intercourse with a male aged between 10 and 18 years, indecent assault and aggravated indecent assault.
Orkopoulos' three male victims in that case were aged 15 to 20. The court found he plied them with drugs and alcohol while serving as a Lake Macquarie City councillor and NSW MP between 1995 and 2006.

Beware the Hijacking of U.S. Protests Into a ‘Color Revolution’
The May 25th killing of George Floyd, an unarmed African-American man, at the hands of a white police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota shocked the world and set off mass protests against racism and police brutality in dozens of cities from the mid-western United States to the European Union, all in the midst of a global pandemic. In the Twin Cities, what began as spontaneous, peaceful demonstrations against the local police quickly transformed into vandalism, arson and looting after the use of rubber bullets and chemical irritants by law enforcement against the protesters, while the initial incitement for the riots was likely the work of apparent agent provocateurs among the marchers. Within days, the unrest had spread to cities across the country including the nation’s capital, with U.S. President Donald Trump threatening to invoke the slavery-era Insurrection Act of 1807 to deploy the military and National Guard on American soil, federal powers not used since the 1992 Los Angeles riots following the Rodney King case.
The debate over the catalyst for the uprising into its period of lawlessness has drawn a range of theories. The suspicious placement of pallets of bricks in the proximity of numerous protest sites have spurred rumors of sabotage by everything from white supremacist groups to “Antifa” to law enforcement itself. Predictably, liberal hawks such as Susan Rice, the former National Security Advisor in the Obama administration, made ludicrous assertions suggesting “Russian agents” were behind the unrest, a continuation of the narrative that the Kremlin has been behind inflaming racial tensions in the U.S. that began during the 2016 election. While Democrats like Rice and Senator Kamala Harris of California have revived an old trope dating back to the Civil Rights movement of Moscow exploiting racial divisions in the U.S., Trump and the GOP have similarly resurrected the ‘outside agitators’ myth attributed to segregationists of the same era. Hypocritically, many of those claiming to be in support of the protests have denounced the latter theory while endorsing the former, when both equally show contempt for the legitimate grievances of the demonstrators and deny their agency. However, both false notions overlook the more likely hidden factors at play attempting to hijack the movement for its own purposes.

Justin Timberlake: ‘Black People in America Are Not Safe’
“Black people in America are not safe,” declared pop star Justin Timberlake in an Instagram rant on Sunday dedicated to Rayshard Brooks, the 27-year-old man killed by police on Saturday in Atlanta, Ga.
“As a dad, this photo hurts. #RayshardBrooks was a father of three girls…1, 2, and 8 years old. He should not be dead,” Timberlake’s lengthy message began. “Neither should #RiahMilton, #DominiqueFells, and #RobertFuller. This week, these four innocent people became victims of racism, violence, and intolerance. And we’re still waiting for Justice for #BreonnaTaylor. I’m heartbroken for their families and for this country.”

Israel in talks to buy coronavirus vaccine from Moderna
Moderna confirmed on Thursday it planned to start a trial of 30,000 volunteers for its vaccine in July.
Israel is in advanced talks with Moderna to buy its coronavirus vaccine that is entering the final stage of testing, leading Israeli news website Ynet reported on Sunday.
Ynet, quoting unnamed officials at Israel's Health Ministry, did not report further details. A ministry spokesman declined to comment on the report.
Moderna confirmed on Thursday it planned to start a trial of 30,000 volunteers for its vaccine in July.
