Ala: Restoring entirety of occupied Syrian Golan is a national priority and a right

Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva Hussam Eddin Ala said that the destruction of cities and villages and the displacement of their occupants is the essence of the criminal policy adopted by Israel since the first day of its occupation of Palestine and the Syrian Golan.

Ala said Syria asserts that restoring the entirety of the occupied Syrian Golan up to the June 4 1967 line by all means provided by international law is a national priority and a right that is not subject to relinquishment or prescription.

Ala added the international community has been calling for the Israeli full withdrawal from the Occupied Syrian Golan till June 4th, 1967 line, in compliance with Security Council resolutions No. 242 for the year 1967 ,338 of 1973 and 497 of the year 1981 which affirmed that Israel’s resolution to impose its rules and judicial custody and administration on the Occupied Syrian Golan is considered as null and void and has no legal impact.

Ahmad Jarba: YPG Are ‘Starving’ Residents of Northeastern Syria

The council’s spokesperson Ahmad Jarba said the, “Kurdish units exploited the capabilities of the area, pushed local farmers to sell their harvest at prices that do not cover their expenses and barred local people from managing their own affairs.”

Jarba added that the “Kurdish units” adopted a policy of starving all constituents of the Jazeera and Euphrates regions, in order to drive them out of the region as they search for a life elsewhere, or to push them into taking actions they could not have foreseen. He warned against continuing these practices.

Gunmen Attack Syrian Intelligence Center, Police Station In Northern Daraa

Early on June 14, unidentified gunmen attacked a police station and a center of the General Intelligence Directorate in the town of Jasim in the northern Daraa countryside.

Opposition activists said a new group dubbed the al-Sarout Regiments has claimed responsibility for the attack. The alleged group is named after Abdul Baset al-Sarout, a rebel commander and a so called “icon” of the opposition that was killed by the Syrian military in northern Hama more than a year ago.

Erdogan’s regime loots Syria’s cereal crops in al-Jazira region: Turkish newspaper

Zaman said that with the start of the wheat harvest season, the Akcakale border gate in Sanliurfa city in southeast of Turkey continuously witnesses the crossing of Turkish trucks loaded with cereals coming from al-Jazira region in the northeastern part of Syria in an open theft of Syrian agricultural crops in the areas occupied by the Turkish regime forces.

The newspaper also quoted a truck driver called “Saleh Jundogdu” as saying that he transfers barley and wheat from the Syrian city of Tal Abyad to the Turkish territories where authorities unload the shipment in the stores of the Turkish agricultural crops office in the city of Sanliurfa.

The driver affirmed that the process of transferring Syrian crops to Turkey has been resumed after a short period of stopping because of the spread of coronavirus pandemic.

Thomas Jefferson Statue Torn Down at Portland High School

A statue of Thomas Jefferson, the United States’ third president and author of the Declaration of Independence, was defaced and torn down on Sunday evening outside a high school in Portland, Oregon.

Photos obtained by Oregon Live show the base of the monument was spray-painted in black with “slave owner” and “George Floyd.”

The statue, situated in front of Jefferson High School, was yanked down following a protest against police brutality organized by Rose City Justice.

Oregon Live reports:

At about 7:15 p.m., a crowd of more than 1,000 left the high school grounds to march to the park. By the time they returned, a statue of Thomas Jefferson had been pulled from its pedestal, apparently by a smaller group. The statue fell on its side and a dent was visible in the concrete where it fell.

Earlier in the day, the statue’s pedestal had been defaced with graffiti that, among other things, identified Jefferson as a slave owner.

“There’s an interesting piece of history up here… Mr. Thomas is all beside himself,” one protester said of the statue being toppled.

“We’re taking this city back,” the organizer added. “One school at a time. One racist statue at a time.”

Outspoken activist who backs removal of controversial statues embarrasses herself by admitting she doesn't know who Winston Churchill is

Activist Lorraine Jones, who is chair of the Lambeth Independent Police Advisory Group out of the United Kingdom, said that she's never "personally" met former Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and she's not sure his London statue should remain standing.

During an embarrassing Saturday exchange, Jones, speaking with Channel 4 News host Cathy Newman, addressed the recent defacing of a Churchill statue in London, blaming it on "far-right" activists.

"They were not guarding the Churchill statue," Jones said. "The thuggery which we all witness was horrifying and totally unacceptable, so that was just an excuse."

Jones added that certain people should be seriously examined to determine whether they are placed on a "high pedestal in this society."

"I think what needs to happen — which I know has already started — we need to look at the people that are being placed on a high pedestal in this society, the reasons why they are, and honestly and rightfully [decide] if they are supposed to be removed," she said.

"The sooner the government can make the decisions to take down the statues, which shouldn't be there, place them in a museum, like there are some people have requested, the better," she said.

But what about the Churchill statue?

Newman pressed Jones as to whether she believed the government should remove the Churchill statue.

"I've heard many arguments on both sides," Jones responded. "Some say that he's a racist, some say that he's a hero. I haven't personally met him, but what I would say is that that question of whether he should remain should be put to the community."

Churchill, the former British Prime Minister who led the U.K. to victory in World War II, died in 1965.

A perplexed Newman then went on to ask Jones whether she personally believed the Churchill statue should be removed.

“Well, I'm going to be honest, I haven't done a lot of history work with Churchill, but if I was to do that, it will be based on my findings," Jones said.

Peter Schiff: Dear Government, This Is Not Helpful!

After the stock market tanked last week, the Trump administration tried to do damage control and talk the economy back up. In his podcast, Peter Schiff said the damage control fell flat. In fact, everything the government is doing claiming to help isn’t helping at all.

After what seemed like weeks of optimism, the bottom fell out of the markets on Thursday. The Dow Jones had its worst day since March, plunging over 1800 points. Some of the pessimism stemmed from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell’s comments on Wednesday when he said he of a recovery “it is a long road. It is going to take some time.”

The Dow was back in correction territory. Meanwhile, the Russell 2000 is still in bear territory. The only market not negative on the year was the NASDAQ.

It was a bad omen when the markets didn’t rally after the Fed meeting when the central bank indicated that it planned to keep rates at zero until at least 2022.

Before the big plunge, the mainstream has been pretty giddy, with a lot of people saying “you can’t lose in the stock market.” Peter said it was another sign of a bubble.

People were complacent. They thought they couldn’t lose. Either they got a strong recovery, in which case the market went up, or we didn’t have a recovery, we sunk back into recession, in which case the Fed came to the rescue with more money printing and then the market went up that way.”

Peter said it looks like it’s going to be the latter.

If anybody thinks they’re going to make money in the market, it’s not because of a strong recovery. It’s going to be because the Fed continues to print money.”

In effect, Powell dropped a bucket of cold water on the markets when he brushed aside optimism about the mythical “v-shaped” recovery. President Trump immediately went into damage control mode. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin went on CNBC and tried to pump up the markets by talking up the economy. He specifically noted all of the money the government is pumping into the economy.

You know, when you see somebody like Mnuchin talking about all the money that the government is pumping into the economy, you need to, in your mind, substitute the word inflation for money. Any time they say, ‘We’re pumping in money, we’re pumping in liquidity,’ just say to yourself, ‘They’re pumping in inflation.’ Because that’s what they’re doing. And when you use that word, does it sound like its a good thing? ‘Yes, we’re pumping inflation into the economy.’ Why would you want to do that? I don’t want more inflation. That’s the last thing we need is higher prices, right? Pumping inflation into the economy is not a good thing. But that’s what pumping money into the economy is.”

It’s not like the government is putting real products into the economy. It’s not creating wealth. It’s not adding resources. It’s not creating anything of value.

They’re just putting numbers on a computer. It’s not even paper - printed money. They’re just electronically creating digits and that’s not going to help the economy.”

Alabama AG Says City of Mobile Violated State Law By Removing Confederate Monument

Attorney General Steve Marshall announced today his determination that the City of Mobile violated the Alabama Memorial Preservation Act by removing a historic statue previously located on public property.

The Memorial Preservation Act was passed in 2017 by the Alabama Legislature to protect architecturally significant buildings, memorial buildings, memorial streets, and monuments located on public property for 40 or more years. The Act specifically charges the Attorney General with the duty of enforcement, much as he is authorized to prosecute all civil actions necessary to protect the rights and interests of the State.

“On June 4, the City of Mobile removed a 120-year-old statue of Admiral Raphael Semmes from public property within the city,” said Attorney General Marshall. “Now that the City has acknowledged its intent to remove the monument permanently, the facts surrounding the removal and a plain reading of the law led me to determine that the Act was violated. After

being notified of that determination, the City has agreed to pay the required fine of $25,000 without a court order.”

Republican-appointed Justices John Roberts and Neil Gorsuch joined the U.S. Supreme Court's liberals Monday in ruling that longstanding anti-discrimination law should be reinterpreted to cover homosexuality and gender confusion, in a case that will have drastic ramifications on religious liberty and force Americans to adopt a "fluid" understanding of biological sex in scores of policies.

Gorsuch, President Donald Trump's first addition to the nation's highest court, wrote the majority opinion for the 6-3 ruling, which concluded that "sex disicrimination" in Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act should be interpreted to mean sexual orientation and gender identity, in addition to its original biological meaning.

The case consolidated several suits into one, including that of a Christian funeral home that fired a male employee who insisted on dressing as a woman on the job; a skydiving instructor who was fired after informing a customer he was gay; and a county child welfare services coordinator who was fired after his employer learned he was gay.

"Today, we must decide whether an employer can fire someone simply for being homosexual or transgender," Gorsuch wrote. "The answer is clear. An employer who fires an individual for being homosexual or transgender fires that person for traits or actions it would not have questioned in members of a different sex. Sex plays a necessary and undisguisable role in the decision, exactly what Title VII forbids."

The grant, announced late last winter, is part of a total $13.5 million in funding CZI is awarding to 30 patient-led organizations.

The cash infusion also represents a rare glimmer of positivity as the world continues to struggle with the COVID-19 epidemic.

Madeleine McCann dead, parents told in letter from German prosecutor

Madeleine McCann is dead, according to a letter German prosecutors sent to the missing British girl's parents.

But German prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters would not disclose what evidence he had that led police to that conclusion.

Mr Wolters told British tabloid The Mirror that he had "re-established contact" with the McCann family in writing.

"We, of course, really consider the fact that it is going to be very hard for the family when we tell them we assume Madeleine is dead.

"But we can't say why she is dead.

"It is more important that we are successful and we are able to get the culprit, as opposed to just putting our cards on the table and tell them why we think she might be."

Madeleine went missing in 2007 while on holiday in Portugal with her family.

She was aged three at the time of her disappearance.

Last week Mr Wolters said his office had "findings" that showed a 43-year-old male suspect had murdered Madeleine.

"At the moment, there is insufficient evidence to convict," he said.

Although he did not mention the suspect by name, media has reported that man as Christian B.

"We have a well-founded suspicion, but this suspicion is below the sufficient level we need to actually bring charges to court," Mr Wolters told CNN.

The new prime suspect had lived in Portugal's Algarve region from 1995 to 2007, and also resided in a house in Praia da Luz, the resort town where Madeleine disappeared.

Portuguese prosecutors have confirmed Christian B had two previous convictions in the country, one for disobedience and another for theft, and had served time in prison.

London's Metropolitan Police last week revealed details of two cars linked to the suspect around the time of the disappearance, and called on the public to step forward with any information about them.

When news of Christian B broke in early June, Madeleine's parents Kate and Gerry McCann thanked the "police forces involved for their continued efforts in the search for Madeleine."

"All we have ever wanted is to find her, uncover the truth and bring those responsible to justice. We will never give up hope of finding Madeleine alive but whatever the outcome may be, we need to know as we need to find peace," they said.
