We need the police. We also need them to lift their game!
As long as police give rioters, looters and other criminals a free pass, yet vigorously and selectively enforce draconian laws against the people, they are going to have a serious credibility problem.
If the police don’t want the ‘defund’ movement to gain ground they are going to have to lift their game significantly.
Perhaps we need to go back to ‘first principles’ as consider why we have police in the first place and from where and how do they rightfully and justly derive their powers.
We need police. They perform a vital function.
What we don’t need is police who think they are above the citizenry, who victimize the citizenry, who conduct criminal activity under the color of law, who refuse to protect citizens against criminals and who basically operate as the enforcers for a criminal class of elites.
The proper role of police is a small part of a larger issue: the proper role of government. Fortunately the founding fathers considered this issue and solved many of the issues that concern us today, we only have to ‘listen‘ to them.
The founding fathers were not perfect, but we have been on the wrong path for many years and it should be blindingly obvious that this current path leads to self destruction.
If we want to improve on the founders vision, we need first to backtrack to the starting point the founders gave us before carefully choosing a new path forward. Ruthlessly abolishing laws and regulations that are not authorized by the constitution would be a good place to start.
POTUS seems to have made some real progress here, but there is still a long way to go.
