Gun-Rights Groups Launch 11th Hour Bid To Block Virginia’s One-Gun-A-Month Law

Gun control law will take effect on July 1

A coalition of gun-rights groups has filed a last-minute bid to prevent Virginia from implementing monthly limits on gun purchases.

On July 1, Virginia will prohibit residents from buying more than one gun per month unless they are law enforcement or hold a valid gun-carry license. The measure serves as a key part of the gun-control package that Democrats passed after taking control of the Virginia legislature, but Second Amendment advocates say it violates the state constitution, as well as federal gun rights. The Virginia Citizens Defense League (VCDL), Gun Owners of America, and Gun Owners Foundation filed suit in the Virginia circuit court for the county of Goochland to prevent the law from taking effect.

"We don't ration any other constitutional rights," Philip Van Cleave, president of the VCDL, told the Washington Free Beacon. "We don't say, ‘Well, you can only go to church once a week. You can only read one newspaper a month.' We don't do any of that. We don't ration our rights."

Democrats won both houses of the state legislature in 2019 with major backing from Michael Bloomberg and gun-control groups. The new majority's push for major gun-control legislation, however, sparked major pushback from local governments. All but 4 of Virginia's 95 counties declared themselves "Second Amendment Sanctuaries," pledging not to enforce certain gun bans they believe to be unconstitutional. The opposition movement culminated in a massive January protest in Richmond organized by the VCDL.

Gun-rights activists succeeded in stopping an attempt by some Democrats to ban and confiscate guns like the AR-15, but Democrats passed a gun-control package that Governor Ralph Northam (D.) signed in April. The battle over gun rights has now moved to the courtroom.

The enforcement of the one-gun-per-month policy is most troubling because it would require state tracking policies at odds with gun rights, according to Gun Owners of America. The group's spokesman, Erich Pratt, said Northam's measures are similar to gun-control laws that were repealed in 2012. The policies have only become more "radical" even as crime rates have dropped in Virginia.

"The enforcement of this law is problematic, as it necessitates a backdoor gun registry," Pratt said in a statement. "The radical push for gun control has nothing to do with reducing crime, but rather is about implementing a disarmament agenda."

Neither Governor Northam nor state attorney general Mark Herring (D.) responded to requests for comment.

The case is scheduled to go before a state court judge on June 26.

GOP Iowa governor to restore voting rights to felons via executive order

Gov. Kim Reynolds plans action after Black Lives Matter demanded this week that she issue the order

Republican Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds announced Tuesday that she would soon issue an executive order restoring the voting rights of felons in the state, following a meeting with Black Lives Matter activists who demanded that she take such action.

However, Reynolds had been pushing for the Iowa Legislature to take up the issue long before Black Lives Matter ordered her to make the move.

What are the details?

On Friday, Des Moines Black Lives Matter wrote an open letter, saying, "Today, organizers from Des Moines BLM met with Governor Kim Reynolds to discuss our demand that the Governor issue an executive order to immediately reinstate the voting rights of every Iowan who has been convicted of a felony."

Gov. Reynolds announced Tuesday that she would do just that. During an interview with Radio Iowa, Reynolds said, "We're working on that right now, sitting down with various groups, listening to what they think is important what is contained in that executive order."

The outlet reported, "Reynolds has met twice with the Black Lives Matter protesters to discuss using her executive authority to grant felon voting rights and she said things were 'a little bumpy' at the beginning."

The governor added, '"We have an important election coming up. We're working on the language to see what that looks like, but hopefully it would mirror what we would put in a constitutional amendment so that we could be consistent in what we're trying to do."

According to the Des Moines Register:

For the past two years, Reynolds has pushed the Legislature to approve an amendment to the state constitution to make the process of regaining voting rights automatic once felons have completed their sentences. But Republicans in the Iowa Senate killed the proposal each year. On Sunday, the Legislature adjourned without the Senate taking a vote on the measure.

Senate Republicans said they did not approve the constitutional language because it appeared that Reynolds planned to sign an executive order, making the amendment unnecessary.

The Hill reported that "Iowa is the sole remaining state that requires felons to apply individually to the governor's office to have their voting rights restored. This currently restricts more than 60,000 residents and close to 10 percent of the state's African American population from voting."

Sean Davis: Federalist Comments Section Will Return, Looks Like NBC Partnered with Left-Wing Group to ‘Use Google to Go After Us’

On Tuesday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” the Federalist Co-Founder Sean Davis stated that the Federalist never got any notice from Google over the threatened demonetizing of the site, it appears NBC “partnered with a foreign left-wing group in Europe to go after us and to use Google to go after us.” And vowed that the site’s comments section will return.

Davis said, “We never got any formal notice from Google. We never got any notice from their ad team. We learned about this from NBC News, from the reporter, Ms. Fraser, who emailed a general info account at the Federalist. She didn’t email me or my partners or my founders, saying hey, we heard that Google demonetized you, what do you think about that? And it’s at that point where we started reaching out to connections that we have at Google and found out that it turns out, yeah, something was going on there, but it wasn’t what NBC or Ms. Fraser had said. In fact, it looks like NBC, the network that coddled Harvey Weinstein and Matt Lauer by the way, had partnered with a foreign left-wing group in Europe to go after us and to use Google to go after us. And as of now, since we have temporarily removed our comments sections, I can assure you they will be back, we are back in Google’s good graces. But this is a pretty terrifying example of the power that you have between the unholy union of corrupt media and monopolistic tech oligarchs.”

Is The ‘Second Wave’ Another Coronavirus Hoax?

Just a week or so ago the mainstream media and thousands representing the “medical community” told us we must throw out the “stay-at-home” orders and go to the streets to protest the death of George Floyd at the hands of the police. The Covid-19 virus will not bother people who are protesting this injustice, they said. The virus only attacks people leaving their homes to protest the stay-at-home orders.

Now, after thousands of businesses – many of them black-owned – have been reduced to rubble and innocent people in the inner cities no longer have anywhere to shop for the basic necessities of life, the mainstream media has backed off of its non-stop coverage of the protests. Suddenly last week they all simultaneously embraced a new fear story to terrify the masses: a “second wave” of coronavirus was among us. It was targeting those states that dared to “open up” their economies and begin a return to relatively normal lives.

Texas, Florida, and California were singled out to scare the rest of the country into thinking that if you dare leave your homes you will catch coronavirus and die. There was a “spike” in coronavirus “cases” they claimed. Funny, just a month or so ago they were demanding that we massively increase testing, which would produce just that “spike” in coronavirus cases they are now using to scare authorities into reinstating the incredibly destructive stay-at-home orders.

In the county here in Texas that includes Houston, the young judge who somehow seized the power to shut down the third largest city in the United States warns us that she may again shut down Harris County to fight this “second wave” of cases. She even threatened to again pour millions of dollars into a “field hospital” at a Houston football stadium that did not see a single patient in the “first wave” of coronavirus. It’s hard not to wonder which politically-connected companies are reaping millions in contracts for an obviously un-needed hospital. Thousands of hospital beds in Houston are vacant, while cancer patients have been refused their screenings and desperately needed treatments.
