Those on the Left are so brainwashed, starting in early childhood with the Disney crap, etc., that they don't even realize that they CAN think for themselves. Every time they tend towards free thought, a deep, pervasive, subliminal fear takes hold of them... the fear that they will no longer be accepted by their group if they diverge from the party line. At its root, it is a fear of being alone, that comes from having rejected the idea of an all-knowing, all-powerful God who knows every thought and every intent.
