The Court simply ruled that gender identity and sexuality cannot be the sole reason for discrimination in the workplace. And section 702(a) of the civil rights act explicitly exempts religious organizations.
Ironically, in this case 2 of the plaintiffs are now dead, and the third claimed his/her status was the cause of dismissal but the employer has clearly stated and will continue to state, that the former employee was dismissed because an internal audit discovered he/she had "misappropriated" (aka, embezzled) company funds…
One suspects that plaintiff was doing everything he/she could to avoid a criminal prosecution…
