Possibly a military coup against the mullahs?
The excuse could be the threat of an impending strike by US/Israel, blaming Iran for the FF. The military could try to make the case and say a coup is necessary to avoid a disastrous war.
I remember wikileaks cables (cable-gate) which gave me the impression that a back-channel to high-ranking military leaders in Iran does exist.
