Your post deserves a response. A taser can be a deadly weapon, IF the officer is alone. In this case his partner was 20 feet back with his own weapon to protect him. In addition, once the perp's taser was discharged it disabled the weapon and posed no danger to the officer.

The perp, now with a disabled weapon, then turned to run with his back to the officer which posed no life and death danger to the officer. The perp was also so drunk he could barely run and would have probably fell on his ass soon. The cops could have easily stayed up with him.

Per the presser by the DA today, they had already frisked the perp for weapons. Don't get me wrong, I am very pro cop and give them the benefit of the doubt. They have a very tough job. The cop would almost be in better shape if he shot the perp BEFORE the perp discharged taser. But he knows the taser is in op. and he has his partner there, which is key for me. For those reasons, I think this was a bad shooting.
