It's crazy how many of the Generals from both sides knew each other from West Point. Many were close friends. Johnston and Sherman fought some intense battles in Georgia and South Carolina. Both remained close friends even after the war. Johnston was a pallbearer in Sherman's funeral. Such a sad period in American history because most Generals proudly served the United States their entire lives, but had to choose between country or defending their state. Back in those days, one's state meant way more than it does today. Robert E. Lee was one of the most honorable Americans who has ever lived. But history won't allow us to say it. Even Ulysses S. Grant acknowledged this. He gave up everything to defend his home from invasion. Many of the Generals from the Confederacy weren't even in favor of secession nor were they even in the State Legislatures. They were asked to served so they accepted. I hate these modern communist scumbags who are trying to erase our history. Hundreds of thousands were killed and they won't even let us keep our memorials. God I fucking hate these people.
