Pentagon starts bailing out companies that have lost business due to coronavirus
The Pentagon has begun to bail out U.S. companies that have seen large parts of their business dry up amid the coronavirus pandemic, in a bid to make sure they can still build weapons.
Last Wednesday, officials announced that five mid-tier defense companies had received a total of $135 million to “help sustain defense-critical workforce capabilities in body armor, aircraft manufacturing, and shipbuilding,” according to a Defense Department statement.“These actions will help to retain critical workforce capabilities throughout the disruption caused by COVID-19 and to restore some jobs lost because of the pandemic,” Lt. Col. Mike Andrews, a Defense Department spokesman, said in the statement.
Meanwhile, a senior Pentagon official told lawmakers that DoD plans to ask Congress for money to reimburse many of its contractors for COVID-related expenditures; for example, wages paid to keep employees on the payroll despite idled production lines and vacated offices; purchases of personal protective gear, and alterations to factory and other work spaces for social distancing.
These moves will buttress earlier Pentagon efforts to shore up its COVID-rattled contractors, including paying firms more money up front and awarding multibillion-dollar contracts earlier than planned.
On Wednesday, Ellen Lord, defense undersecretary for acquisition and sustainment, told a House Armed Services Committee hearing that the Pentagon has asked White House’s Office of Management and the Budget for permission to request on the lower end” of “tens of billions of dollars” to cover personnel-cost reimbursements in a future coronavirus stimulus package.

Indian minister calls for boycott of ‘ALL Chinese goods’ after deadly border clash
An Indian government minister has called for an economic boycott of China, following a deadly Chinese-Indian military clash in a disputed border region.
“China is a country that betrays”, Ramdas Athawale, India’s minister for social justice and empowerment wrote on Twitter, adding that India “should boycott all Chinese goods”. He then became more specific, posting, “Chinese restaurants and hotels serving Chinese food should be closed in India!”
Athawale is known for making bold proclamations. He previously made the headlines for a show of solidarity with China in its fight against the coronavirus pandemic. The video of the event where the minister was chanting“Corona, go!” along with the crowd went viral on Indian social media.

FBI arrests BLM protester after tracking her across LinkedIn, Etsy and social media
A Philadelphia protester could be facing 80 years in jail, after images of her setting police cars ablaze led to an FBI online manhunt spanning e-commerce and social media sites.
The protest, a response to the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis last month, devolved into “civil unrest” and “widespread looting, burglary, arson, destruction of property, and other violent acts,” according to the Department of Justice.
With nothing much to go on apart from those aerial shots, the FBI turned its attention online and sought on-the-ground footage of the violent protests. Its operatives scoured social media in search of additional photos of the as-then unidentified Blumenthal. After examining a set of 500 pictures shared by an amateur photographer, Blumenthal was once again spotted.
On closer inspection, the agents noticed a peace sign tattooed on the woman’s right forearm, and were able to make detailed notes about what she was wearing. Emblazoned across her T-shirt were the words “Keep the Immigrants. Deport the racists.”
The only place this T-shirt was available, it’s been reported, was on Etsy, the e-commerce website that retails vintage items and craft supplies. Under the listing about this item of clothing was a five-star review that had been posted by a user called ‘alleycatlore’ a few days before the protest. A quick Google search of this username revealed a matching profile on another online shopping portal in the name of a “Lore-elisabeth.”

Black Lives Matter Activist Found Dead after Tweeting Reports of Sexual Assault
A Florida woman who had become a recognizable voice in the Black Lives Matter movement has been murdered, according to Tallahassee police. Oluwatoyin Salau, known to friends as "Toyin," went missing over a week ago after a series of mysterious posts on social media.
The 19-year-old woman reported via her Twitter account on June 6 that she had been sexually assaulted by a man who had helped her by providing transportation. Salau said in her post that she had been sheltering at a church in Tallahassee and an individual "disguised as a man of God" offered to give her a ride in his truck.
