"They Don't Like Me" - Trump Floored After Supreme Court Protects DACA, Suggests 2nd Amendment At Risk Without 'More Justices'

Update (1115ET): President Trump slammed the Supreme Court after its Tuesday ruling which blocks the Administration from ending DACA.

Following the decision, Trump retweeted the Daily Caller's highlighting of the dissent written by Justice Thomas, who said the decision is "An effort to avoid a politically controversial but legally correct decision."

Trump then tweeted "These horrible & politically charged decisions coming out of the Supreme Court are shotgun blasts into the face of people that are proud to call themselves Republicans or Conservatives," adding "We need more Justices or we will lose our 2nd. Amendment & everything else. Vote Trump 2020!"

In a split ruling which will keep the program open to an estimated 1.3 million non-citizens, the justices said the Trump administration failed to adequately justify terminating the program. In other words - struck down on a technicality that the Trump administration can correct.

Trump announced last September that it would rescind DACA - a decision which was challenged by multiple federal courts by Democratic state attorneys general, along with several organizations and individuals.

In January, US District Judge William Alsup ruled that the program must remain in place while DACA is litigated - keeping 690,000 people covered by the program.

EU’s top court slaps down Hungarian law on NGO transparency imposed amid Budapest feud with Soros over ‘political meddling’

A 2017 Hungarian law on the transparency of foreign funding for NGOs, imposed in response to what Budapest called meddling by billionaire George Soros, violates EU laws, the union’s top court has ruled.

The Hungarian law required non-governmental organizations operating in the country to disclose foreign funding exceeding about $1,600. Such NGOs were supposed to register with the Hungarian courts, make the names of its foreign donors public, and report the fact that foreign funding had been received on their websites.

In a ruling reported on Thursday, the Court of Justice of the EU (CJEU) said the law imposed “discriminatory and unjustified restrictions with regard to both the organizations at issue and the persons granting them such support.” Hungary had breached several articles of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, as well as violating its obligations on the free movement of capital within the EU, the court ruled.

‘Unacceptable threat’ and ‘provocation’: European nations fume after US pulls out of talks on global digital tax

European nations have blasted Washington’s decision to pull out of talks on a major overhaul to the taxing of digital giants, which currently move profits into low-tax havens from the places where those profits are actually made.

The plan to impose ‘digital taxes’ on companies like Google and Facebook has been championed by the UK, France, Spain and Italy. Paris, Rome and London have already put in place national laws on how such taxation would be effected. Talks on the issue have been held under the auspices of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

The US, in whose jurisdiction some of the biggest digital companies reside, threw the talks into disarray last week after pulling out of negotiations. US Treasury secretary Steven Mnuchin informed his European counterparts about the decision in a letter, media reports revealed on Wednesday.

“Attempting to rush such difficult negotiations is a distraction from far more important matters,” Mnuchin was cited by Financial Times as having written. “This is a time when governments around the world should focus their attention on dealing with the economic issues resulting from Covid-19.”

The recipients of the message snapped back on Thursday, saying the US was acting unacceptably.

“This letter is a provocation. It’s a provocation towards all the partners at the OECD when we were centimetres away from a deal on the taxation of digital giants,” said French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire in an interview on France Inter radio. The organization has 37 member states, but the talks involve nearly 140 countries.

Bolton Said He Had 'No Problem' With Lying In 2010 Interview, Trump Says Former NSA Sabotaged North Korea Talks

President Trump's political opponents have once again joined forces with the mainstream American press to "leak" passages from a book penned by former NSA John Bolton as the White House battled to prevent its release, then play up the most salacious claims from the 550+ page tome.

As both sides struggle to propagate their own conflicting narratives, Bolton's reputation as a fanatical neocon and one of the most disliked, and distrusted figures in the GOP political firmament - GWB couldn't get the man through a senate confirmation when he tried to appoint him ambassador to the UN, and reporters claimed that Bolton was quickly sidelined after joining the administration - is coming back to bite him.

And as oppo researchers dig through a lifetime of cable television appearances and other public comments, they're already finding a wealth of comments where Bolton claimed that he wouldn't hesitate to lie to protect America's national security interests, even in one case citing a famous Churchill (racist) quote claiming truth must if necessary be protected by lies.

Watch the clip below and hear it for yourself:

Meanwhile, a furious President Trump has continued his twitter assault on his one-time lacky: "When Wacko John Bolton went on Deface the Nation and so stupidly said that he looked at the “Libyan Model” for North Korea, all hell broke out. Kim Jong Un, who we were getting along with very well, went “ballistic”, just like his missiles - and rightfully so…He didn’t want Bolton anywhere near him. Bolton’s dumbest of all statements set us back very badly with North Korea, even now. I asked him, “what the hell were you thinking?” He had no answer and just apologized. That was early on, I should have fired him right then & there!"

It's especially notable since North Korea's latest belligerent actions have essentially unraveled all of the "progress" made during the Trump Administration, even as US intelligence has repeatedly warned that NK never had any intentions of nuclear disarmament.

Media outlets have seized on claims that Trump pleaded with President Xi for political help during trade deal talks, and that he allegedly offered to back off on China's most horrifying human rights abuses (the detention of 1 million minority-Muslim Uyghurs). Ironically, the 'Book of Bolton' leaked just as Trump signed into law a bill targeting senior Chinese officials involved with the Muslim detention and mass surveillance program in the far western state of Xinjiang, a devastating financial blow to these individuals that could lead to many of their (probably considerable) assets outside of China being frozen or seized.

Trump has already slammed Bolton in an interview late last night, where he accused the former NSA of breaking the law.

Beijing has demanded that Trump reverse course immediately, and is threatening to retaliate.

As Rabobank's Michael Every told clients in one of his latest notes: "Whatever one’s take on the Book of Bolton, this marks another step deeper into US-China Cold War – unless the meeting in Honolulu between US Secretary of State Pompeo and China’s top diplomat Yang Jiechi went exceptionally well. Did they touch on the US sanctions that are also looming over Hong Kong, or legislation just proposed that would target the US green cards of Chinese CCP members?"

Of course, most of the twitter users screaming about Trump committing treason probably aren't even aware that Trump signed the Uyghurs bill.

Portland protesters barricade streets and declare new ‘autonomous zone’ outside mayor’s residence

Anarchists, protesters and activists have taken to the streets of Portland once again, this time establishing an “autonomous zone” outside the mayor’s home, after their demands were not met at a city hall meeting.

Portland City Council voted to cut $15 million from the Portland Police Bureau budget, eliminating some 107 full-time positions, though mostly via vacancies and retirements, according to local media reports.

However, the protesters – who’d gathered in their thousands across the city for the 20th consecutive night in solidarity with Black Lives Matter, calling for racial justice and police reform – were not appeased by the budget cuts. In response, they established at least one new self-rule area in the city – the Glisan Autonomous Zone, outside Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler’s home.

A splinter group of about a hundred people assembled outside Mayor Wheeler’s residence, flashing lasers and strobe lights through the windows and establishing dumpster barricades across the city streets.

Britain ‘broke own rules’ by failing to inspect factories making bombs for Saudi Arabia’s war in Yemen

The UK government has breached its own guidelines requiring it to conduct regular inspections of controversial weapons factories making bombs used by Saudi Arabia in its aerial campaign in Yemen, a new report says.

The purpose of regular inspections is to check whether weapons producers fulfill the conditions of their export licenses. However, inspectors last visited US arms giant Raytheon’s missile factories in Glenrothes, east-central Scotland, in November 2016, and in Harlow, Essex, in November 2015.

This means Britain has breached its own guidelines requiring the inspections to be conducted “every three years” at a minimum, investigative websites Declassified UK and The Ferret reported.

The plant in Glenrothes makes parts for Paveway IV laser-guided bombs, supplied to Saudi Arabia, which has been conducting a devastating bombing campaign in Yemen for more than five years. Human Rights Watch has repeatedly warned that British-produced munitions, including Paveway bombs, are being used by Riyadh to strike civilian targets.

It is unclear exactly how many inspections have been missed, but trade minister Ranil Jayawardena told members of parliament earlier this month that a detailed report on the issue would come “at a disproportionate cost,” because the government would have to manually review all of its records. Jayawardena also previously argued that revealing the results of such inspections is “commercially sensitive.”

When asked about eight of Britain’s weapons factories, all linked to the Saudi bombing of Yemen, the minister admitted that half of them had not been inspected for more than three years. This is despite the government’s past claims that it has “the most robust” export control process in the world.

Last month, another Declassified UK report showed that the authorities missed the deadline to check a plant run by British arms company BAE Systems in Warton, Lancashire, which makes Typhoon jet fighters, also sold to Riyadh and used in Yemen air raids.

The revelations sparked criticism in Scotland. Scottish National Party MP Douglas Chapman said the situation highlights “the reckless, irresponsible attitude” of the government towards the conflict in Yemen. Scottish Green Party foreign affairs spokesperson Ross Greer blasted London for creating “a smokescreen for protecting the profits of multibillion-pound international arms firms.”

Human rights groups have long demanded that London stop selling weapons to Saudi Arabia, as UN experts and other watchdogs say Saudi airstrikes cause massive civilian casualties on the ground. Last year, Britain suspended new arms deals with Riyadh after a court in London ruled that the government had failed to guarantee that UK-made weapons are not being used against civilians in Yemen.

Bruce Springsteen goes on the attack against President Trump's COVID-19 response: 'Put on a f***ing mask'

The rocker said the handling of the coronavirus pandemic has been a 'national disgrace'

Bruce Springsteen ripped President Donald Trump for not wearing a face mask and for the "shamed response" to the coronavirus pandemic "from our leaders."

Springsteen proclaimed that he was "pissed off" over the handling of the COVID-19 outbreak and made critical remarks about President Trump on Wednesday during his E Street Radio show on SiriusXM.

"Now I had another show prepared for broadcast this week, on this strange and eventful summer," Springsteen said. "But with a 100,000-plus Americans dying over the last few months, and the empty shamed response from our leaders, I've been simply pissed off.

"Those lives deserve better than just being inconvenient statistics for our president's re-election efforts," the singer-songwriter continued. "It's a national disgrace.

"I'm going to start out by sending one to the man sitting behind the Resolute Desk. With all respect, sir, show some consideration and care for your countrymen and your country," Springsteen told Trump. "Put on a f***ing mask."

Then "The Boss" played Bob Dylan's 1989 song "The Disease of Conceit."

President Trump has purposely not worn face coverings during the COVID-19 outbreak. The one time Trump was spotted wearing a face mask was during a tour of a Ford Motor Co. plant in Michigan last month.

Trump admitted that he was not wearing a face covering to annoy the media.

"I wore one in this back area, but I didn't want to give the press the pleasure of seeing it," Trump told reporters following his tour of the Ford plant that would make ventilators in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Springsteen has been a steadfast adversary of President Trump. Last October, Springsteen said Trump "doesn't have a grasp of the deep meaning of what it means to be an American."

In 2017, the progressive rocker released a song titled, "That's What Makes Us Great," that blasted the president.

Springsteen opened a February 2017 concert in Australia by saying, "We stand before you embarrassed Americans tonight." The quote was a reference to President Trump's self-described "tough" phone call with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull regarding a "dumb" Obama administration agreement to take in refugees from a detention center.

Springsteen was a staunch supporter of Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential election. A day before Clinton lost the election to Trump, Springsteen performed at a rally for the Democratic candidate.

"This is a man whose vision is limited to little beyond himself, who has the profound lack of decency that would allow him to prioritize his own interests and ego before American democracy itself," Springsteen told the crowd in Philadelphia on Nov. 8, 2016. "Somebody who would be willing to damage our long-cherished and admired system rather than look to himself for the reasons behind his own epic failure. And that's unforgivable. Tomorrow, those ideas and that campaign is going down."

Virus app U-turn: Britain to switch to Google & Apple tech for Covid-19 contact-tracing despite rejecting it earlier

The UK is set to use a "decentralized" model proposed by Google and Apple for its Covid-19 contact-tracing app. The previous model developed by the NHS sparked privacy and usability concerns.

The government is switching to a model based on technology provided by Apple and Google. Despite the replacement, the user interface will stay the same.

The news follows reports that the NHS app's advisory board is considering dropping the current centralized model, by which data is stored on a central server controlled by authorities and opting for a decentralized approach touted by Google and Apple, by which data is kept on the users' smartphones.

The government had dismissed this idea in the past, arguing that a more centralized model makes it "easier" to track overall trends on the spread of Covid-19 and to audit the system.

Britain has been developing its contact-tracing app, called 'NHS Covid-19,' since March. It uses Bluetooth signals to log when smartphone owners are close to each other, and alerts them if someone has coronavirus symptoms.

The NHS app, however, sparked privacy concerns, fueled by further reports of it failing numerous performance tests. The US-based tech giants are insisting that their decentralized model better protects personal data against hackers or authorities who may wish to exploit the information without the users' consent. They said that their approach will make it impossible to identify certain smartphone owners by the government or any other third party.

Bolton: Trump Is Not ‘Fit for Office’ — Doesn’t Have ‘Competence to Carry Out the Job’

In a clip of an interview set to air on Sunday on ABC, former National Security Adviser John Bolton accused President Donald Trump of not being “fit for office.”

Reporter Martha Raddatz asked, “You describe the president as erratic foolish, behaved irrationally, bizarrely. You can’t leave him alone for a minute. He saw conspiracies behind rocks and was stunningly uninformed. He can’t tell the difference between his own interest and the country’s interest.”

Bolton said, “I don’t think he’s fit for office. I don’t think he has the competence to carry out the job. There really isn’t any guiding principle that I was able to discern other than, ‘What’s good for Donald Trump’s reelection?’”

He added, “I think he was so focused on the reelection that longer-term considerations fell by the wayside. So if he thought he could get a photo opportunity with Kim Jong Un at the Demilitarized Zone in Korea, there was considerable emphasis on the photo opportunity and the press reaction to it and little or no focus on what such meetings did for the bargaining positions of the United States.”

Trump Administration Condemned China’s Muslim Concentration Camps a Year Before Bolton Says Trump Approved Them

Former National Security Advisor John Bolton claims President Donald Trump told China’s president to go ahead with Muslim concentration camps in June 2019, but the Trump administration had condemned them already in July 2018.

In a Wall Street Journal op-ed on Thursday to promote his new book, The Room Where It Happened: A White House Memoir, Bolton claimed that Trump gave Chinese Premier Xi Jinping the go-ahead to round up millions of Uighurs:

At the opening dinner of the Osaka G-20 meeting in June 2019, with only interpreters present, Xi had explained to Trump why he was basically building concentration camps in Xinjiang. According to our interpreter, Trump said that Xi should go ahead with building the camps, which Trump thought was exactly the right thing to do.

However, almost a year before, the Trump administration had specifically condemned China’s concentration camps at the first-ever Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom in Washington, DC in July 2018:

As representatives of the international community, we are deeply concerned about the significant restrictions on religious freedom in China and call on the Chinese government to respect the human rights of all individuals. Many members of religious minority groups in China – including Uighurs, Hui, and Kazakh Muslims; Tibetan Buddhists; Catholics; Protestants; and Falun Gong – face severe repression and discrimination because of their beliefs.

We are particularly troubled by reports of the Chinese government’s deepening crackdown on Uighurs and members of other Muslim minority groups in China, including: undue restrictions on freedom of religion; destruction of mosques; unprecedented levels of surveillance; efforts to pressure other governments into forcibly returning Uighurs to China or to coerce family members of Uighurs still in Xinjiang to encourage Uighurs living aboard to return; and the detention of hundreds of thousands, and possibly millions, of Uighurs and members of other Muslim minority groups in facilities ranging from makeshift holding centers to prisons, ostensibly for “political re-education,” in the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region. There are reports of deaths in these facilities. We call on the Chinese government to release immediately all those arbitrarily detained.

Bolton also claimed in his op-ed that Trump made similar comments to Xi in 2017, but he acknowledges that he heard that from someone else.

Hours before Bolton’s op-ed was published, Trump signed the Uyghur Human Rights Policy Act of 2020.

Hillary Tells UK News Rioters are ‘Tiny, Tiny Minority’ of BLM, Trump Has ‘Hijacked’ Christianity

Hillary Clinton said that violent looters and rioters are a “tiny, tiny minority” of the Black Lives Matter movement and accused President Trump of trying to “hijack Christianity” in a soft-ball interview with British news broadcaster Kay Burley.

The supposedly impartial Sky News broadcaster, who at one point in the interview said she “wanted to come over and give [Mrs Clinton] a hug” after spotting her at a restaurant following her 2016 election defeat, led the former Senator and Secretary of State by saying she wanted to ask her “specifically” about “the fact” that President Trump “used tear gas on the protesters” outside St. John’s Episcopal Church.

“They were totally peaceful protesters!” waxed the former First Lady enthusiastically.

Neither Mrs Clinton nor Burley mentioned that BLM activists had earlier set the historic church on fire, or the fact, in any case, the police long ago made it clear that no tear gas was used during the incident, despite inaccurate media reports asserting that it was.

“[W]hat [President Trump] was trying to do [at the church], as he often does, is to mischaracterise [Black Lives Matter supporters] and their behaviour and their goals and lump them in with a tiny, tiny minority of people who took advantage of a tragic moment to loot, and to steal, and to vandalise — a tiny, tiny percentage,” Mrs Clinton insisted.

“[President Trump] wanted to cast that [criminality] over the millions of, you know, very thoughtful, non-violent, peaceful protesters.”

“For a photo opportunity,” the impartial Burley chipped in helpfully.

“Well, absolutely!” replied Mrs Clinton, warming to the theme the British broadcaster had offered her.

“For a photo opportunity holding a book he’s never read,” she added.

“He says that it’s one of his favourite books,” replied Burley.

“Yes, and he cant tell you a single thing that’s in it, that has been a pattern, he’s tried to hijack, uh, Christianity and the Bible in ways that are, you know, deeply hypocritical, and that was just another occasion,” Clinton replied.
