Anthony Fauci: Americans ‘Don’t Believe Science and They Don’t Believe Authority’

Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, served up harsh criticism of Americans on Thursday, asserting that the country suffers from what he described as an “anti-science bias” problem.

“One of the problems we face in the United States is that unfortunately, there is a combination of an anti-science bias that people are — for reasons that sometimes are, you know, inconceivable and not understandable — they just don’t believe science and they don’t believe authority,” Fauci told the Learning Curve podcast, which is produced by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

“So when they see someone up in the White House, which has an air of authority to it, who’s talking about science, that there are some people who just don’t believe that — and that’s unfortunate because, you know, science is truth,” Fauci continued, referring to the White House coronavirus task force’s once-daily briefings.

“It’s amazing sometimes the denial there is, it’s the same thing that gets people who are anti-vaxxers, who don’t want people to get vaccinated, even though the data clearly indicate the safety of vaccines,” he added. “That’s really a problem.”

Fauci’s comments come after the infectious disease expert admitted that the federal government held off promoting the use of face coverings to fight the spread of the coronavirus due to widespread shortages of masks.

Fauci said health experts were “concerned the public health community, and many people were saying this, were concerned that it was at a time when personal protective equipment, including the N95 masks and the surgical masks, were in very short supply.”

“We wanted to make sure that the people, namely the health care workers, who were brave enough to put themselves in a harm way, to take care of people who you know were infected with the coronavirus and the danger of them getting infected,” he added.

Fauci made headlines this week when he declared that he would certainly not attend President Donald Trump’s campaign rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, citing personal health concerns stemming from the pandemic.

“I’m in a high-risk category. Personally, I would not. Of course not,” Fauci, 79, said in an interview with the Daily Beast.

Chick=fil-A CEO Dan Cathy appeared at Passion City Church in Atlanta on Sunday where he shined the shoes of a black man, Christian rapper and music business owner Lecrae to atone for racism and urged other white people to do the same.

Cathy told of being inspired several years ago by the story of a young man at a Texas church revival who shined the shoes of an elderly black man at the revival over his feelings about racism in his hometown.

Afterward Lecrae wryly noted the emptiness of the gesture, “And some stock in Chick-fil-A.”

“I invite folks just to put some words to action here and if we need to find somebody that needs to have their shoes shined, we need to just go right on over and shine their shoes.”

“Whether they got tennis shoes on or not — maybe they got sandals on — it really doesn’t matter. But, there’s a time in which we need to have some personal action here. Maybe we need to give them a hug, too.

“I bought about 1,500 of these [brushes] and I gave them to all our Chick-Fil-A operators and staff a number of years ago.”

“So, any expressions of a contrite heart, of a sense of humility, a sense of shame, a sense of embarrassment begat with an apologetic heart — I think that’s what our world needs to hear today.”

Donald Trump Explains Why He Hired ‘Crazy’ John Bolton at the White House

President Donald Trump explained Thursday why he hired former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton as a National Security adviser, despite disagreeing with him on many foreign policy issues.

The president commented during an interview with the Wall Street Journal:

The only thing I liked about Bolton was that everybody thought he was crazy. And frankly, when you walk into the room with him, you’re in a good negotiating position. Because they figure you’re going to war if John Bolton was there. He wanted to go to war with everybody. He never saw a war he didn’t like.

Trump criticized Bolton’s hawkish position on foreign policy and said he disagreed with him a lot.

“I view him as a disgruntled employee. Very unhappy. Hated to leave,” Trump said and added, “He had a lot of policy disputes, he and I.”

Trump said he could never understand why Bolton continued to defend the decision that the George W. Bush administration made to invade Iraq.

“That’s when I lost him,” Trump said. “But no, I disagreed with much of the stuff he said. He was one of many people. I liked listening to many people, and then doing whatever is the right thing to do.”

He begged, he literally begged, and I saw him beg to try to get in to be the national security advisor. The minute he got in here, what he did in that building right over there was set up the National Security Office as an autonomous zone with him literally as the warlord. Big issues like China, he had nothing to do with it and didn’t want anything to do with. He spent a lot of time trying to engineer coups in places like Venezuela. He was good at acquiring turf within the NSA, but he had no clue what to actually do with it. One of the biggest surprises I had with him was he was one of the worst administrators that I’ve seen pass here in three and a half years.”

He continued, “He talks about this pattern of behavior with the president. I would simply say the pattern of John Bolton’s behavior, this is a repeatable pattern, in the Bush administration the big lie he told there was Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. He used that for the campaign to invade Iraq. That cost us tremendous amounts of blood and treasure. That’s something that the president absolutely opposed. Schiff Says He Will Consult with Pelosi on ‘Next Steps’ on Bolton Book

House Intelligence Committee chair and ex-impeachment manager Adam Schiff (D-CA) said he will consult with fellow California Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other chairmen on “next steps” regarding allegations raised in John Bolton’s new book.

“We will continue to hold Trump accountable, and work to expose his abuses and corruption. In the coming days, we will be consulting with the Speaker and other chairs on next steps,” Schiff said in a statement released Thursday.

Bolton’s book, according to reports, claims that Trump told Chinese dictator Xi Jinping to buy more agricultural products from American farmers, which would help him win reelection.

Bolton does not provide actual quotes from Trump. Instead, he reportedly wrote about a meeting with Trump and Xi:

He then, stunningly, turned the conversation to the coming U.S. presidential election, alluding to China’s economic capability to affect the ongoing campaigns, pleading with Xi to ensure he’d win.

He stressed the importance of farmers, and increased Chinese purchases of soybeans and wheat in the electoral outcome. I would print Trump’s exact words but the government’s prepublication review process has decided otherwise.

Democrats are claiming that Trump’s alleged remarks constitute asking for help in an election from a foreign power, versus Trump trying to negotiate the best outcome in trade talks for American farmers.

Schiff called it part of a “pattern and practice” of abusing his power for personal and political gain, and raising old claims from the unsuccessful effort to impeach Trump.

“Notwithstanding John Bolton’s self-serving silence during the impeachment investigation, the allegations he raises are very serious,” Schiff wrote. “They further demonstrate what we proved at trial, not only regarding his Ukraine misconduct, but more consequentially, that he has a pattern and practice of abusing his power for personal and political gain.”

He also blasted Bolton for refusing to testify during the impeachment hearings, and wanting to save it for his book, from which he is expected to financially and personally profit.

“John Bolton may be an author, but he’s no patriot,” Schiff said.

“When Bolton was asked, he refused, and said that he would sue the House if he was subpoenaed. When Senate Republicans blocked Bolton’s testimony during the Senate trial to protect Trump, we asked if Bolton would be willing to provide written testimony before the trial was over. He refused, again, and decided to save it for his book,” he added.

Criminal Illegal Immigrants Released Over COVID-19 Violate House Arrest Orders Often

Criminal illegal immigrants released from jail to avoid spreading COVID-19 repeatedly violate court orders requiring home confinement as part of an improvised bail agreement provoked by the pandemic. Some of the recently incarcerated individuals now roaming around freely have convictions for serious offenses such as aggravated assault with a weapon, drug trafficking, domestic violence, fraud and extortion. In several of the cases, a federal judge’s coronavirus-inspired house arrest orders have served as a big joke. Some illegal alien convicts have left their home hundreds of times despite federal court orders to stay home, according to a legal filing obtained by a conservative Boston newspaper that is closely tracking the scandal.

It all began when attorneys at a civil rights group that “fights discrimination on behalf of people of color and immigrants” petitioned a federal court to release illegal immigrants detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) over coronavirus. Dozens were released on bail in Bristol County, Massachusetts with tracking devices to assure they remain under house arrest. Instead, many have left their home repeatedly, according to federal prosecutors and legal filings cited in the news series. One illegal alien left his house 214 times in one month and another 78 times. Others have violated house arrest orders on dozens of occasions and one illegal immigrant convict left 17 times in one day, a federal prosecutor told a judge during a hearing this week. The same offender recorded around 129 infractions in only a few weeks. The bail violations are well documented with data provided by court-mandated GPS monitoring.

This appears to have upset the federal judge, Reagan-appointed William Young, who ordered the illegal immigrants released in response to a class action lawsuit filed by the civil rights nonprofit. The complaint describes detained illegal immigrants as “highly vulnerable,” and “at imminent risk of contracting COVID-19” as well as “death” because they are “literally trapped” in detention with no safe alternative. “Their confinement conditions and detention treatment have created a dangerous and hazardous situation that imminently threatens their lives, as well as the well-being of guards and others in the surrounding community, and the general public,” according to the lawsuit, which names cities throughout the nation that released thousands of detainees—including people serving sentences for criminal convictions—because of the threat COVID-10 poses inside jails. Among them are Los Angeles, Oakland, New Jersey, New York City, Cleveland, Nashville, Houston, San Antonio and Charlotte.

Status And Development Of US Military Biological Projects

The U.S. military and political leadership (MPL) has consistently declared in international forums the punctual implementation of the “Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production and Stockpiling of Bacteriological (Biological) and Toxin Weapons and on Their Destruction” (hereinafter, the Convention or BTWC). The convention was approved by the UN General Assembly in 1971, entered into force in 1975, and is open-ended.

According to foreign and Russian biologists, a disadvantage of the BTWC is the lack of a control and inspection mechanism for the implementation of its main provisions by the participating countries. At the same time, the U.S. MPL is avoiding the participation in the development of this mechanism and signing the relevant protocol proposed by Russia. In addition, the American leadership, through its extensive biological-military activities, had deliberately committed serious violations of the Convention, which should be considered as a departure from international law.

The results of the analysis of foreign and Russian information materials, statements of former Minister of State Security of Georgia I. Giorgadze and assessments of annual reports of the U.S. State Department by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation allow to draw conclusions about systematic violations of the basic provisions of the Convention and the creation of biological (bacteriological) weapons in this country by the U.S. leadership.

The medical and biological activities of the U.S. military department on the perimeter of the Russian borders pose a serious threat to the security of Russia and other states. The locations of biological laboratories, according to foreign and Russian experts, have been chosen so that many of them are located in areas adjacent to Russia and China and are a constant source of biological threats to these states. In the former republics of the USSR, the Pentagon has funded the operation and development of new microbiological laboratories. More than 30 U.S.-controlled laboratories with a high level of biological protection are currently being upgraded, which is also confirmed by official UN data. Their capabilities make it possible to conduct a full range of studies with agents of extremely dangerous infectious diseases.

The content of most of the work indicates that new types of biological attack agents with predetermined pathogenic properties may be produced.

According to foreign information sources, basic U.S. Central Reference Laboratories (CRLs), supplemented by a network of zonal stations, operate in the Ukraine and Georgia. In addition, under an agreement between its Ministry of Health and the U.S. Department of Defense, the Ukraine has laboratories for the study of highly dangerous infections. There is one laboratory in each of the cities of Kiev, Odessa, Kherson, Ternopil, Uzhgorod, Vinnitsa, Kharkov and Lugansk, two laboratories in Dnepropetrovsk and three in Lvov.

Scott Morrison reveals foreign government hackers targeted Liberal, Labor and National parties in attack on Parliament's servers

Australia's major political parties have been targeted during a cyber attack by a foreign government on the Australian Parliament's servers.

But Prime Minister Scott Morrison said investigations into the recent hack were yet to find any evidence of electoral interference.

He confirmed earlier reports, revealed by the ABC, that the nation's cyber security agencies believed a foreign government was behind the attacks.

"Our cyber experts believe that a sophisticated state actor is responsible for this malicious activity," Mr Morrison told Parliament.

"Let me be clear, there is no evidence of any electoral interference.

"We have put in place a number of measures to ensure the integrity of our electoral system."

The impact to political parties was uncovered during an investigation of a breach of Parliament House's computer servers on February 8.

A spokesman for the Liberal Party said it was "working closely with security agencies on this matter".

The nation's chief cyber security adviser, Alistair MacGibbon, the head of the Australian Cyber Security Centre, said it was too early to tell what information the hackers had accessed.

"We know that this state actor has been interacting with those networks," he said.

"These are very early days and a decision was made, I believe rightly in terms of risk management, to go publicly with this issue before we knew the full extent."

Politicians and their staff lost access to their emails as security agencies reset passwords when the breach was detected.

Ministers and their offices were not affected in the suspected hack because they operate on different computer servers.

Mr MacGibbon said while the hacker's identity remained unknown, the list of suspects was small.

"The sophistication of their methodology to operate in those systems gives us the confidence to say it is a state actor," he said.

"There are a limited number of countries but we have low confidence at being able to publicly state who we think it is."

UK: Major British firms will pay reparations for slavery

Two major British firms, Lloyd’s of London and Greene King, have pledged to pay reparations to “representatives of black people” and other minorities for their past involvement in the slave trade.

Representatives of Lloyd’s of London, an insurance market, and Greene King, the country’s largest brewery, announced their intention to pay reparations yesterday evening. The decisions were made after researchers at the University College London discovered links between the firm’s founders and the slave trade, according to a report by The Guardian. The British Empire abolished the slave trade in 1833.

Simon Fraser, one of Lloyd’s founding members, owned slaves on plantations in Dominica and British Guiana. Benjamin Greene, one of Greene King’s founders, had slaves on plantations in Montserrat and Saint Kitts.

A representative for Greene King said that the firm will “make a substantial investment to benefit the Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic community and support our race diversity in the business,” and that “racism and discrimination have no place at Greene King.”

For its part, Lloyd’s said that the firm shall “invest in positive programmes to attract, retain, and develop black and minority ethnic talent” and will offer “financial support to charities and organisations promoting opportunity and inclusion for black and minority ethnic groups.” They said that they are still working on identifying appropriate groups to which to donate.

Lloyd’s further said that they will check their “organisational artefacts to ensure that they are explicitly non-racist.”

Neither firm has yet said exactly how much they will offer.

The firms’ announcements come as the UK has seen an explosion of violence in recent weeks following similar rioting in the United States that was triggered by the death of George Floyd, a black man who died while being taken into police custody. The UK has been rocked by conflict ever since, with thugs attacking counter-demonstrators in London last weekend who were attempting to protect British landmarks from Leftist extremists after police showed an unwillingness to do so, as previously reported by Voice of Europe.
