It has always been this way even with police, they are just an illusion of safety. If your life is on the line in the case of a violent attack, robbery, etc, a cop WILL NOT be there. They may show up later and try to solve who dunnit, but you need to provide for your own security. They are mostly historians. Sometimes they do actually help people in dire situations like accidents, and rescues, but when it comes to personal security, outsourcing it and expecting someone to be there for you is foolhardy
