https://www.insightcrime.org/news/brief/us-rewards-ex-farc-mafia/

On June 18, the State Department issued a press release announcing an increased reward of $10 million each for information leading to the capture of Seuxis Hernández Solarte, alias “Jesús Santrich,” and Luciano Marín Arango, alias “Iván Márquez.”

The two Colombians, once top commanders in the now-demobilized Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia – FARC), are accused of drug trafficking while the rewards against them are part of broader efforts to dismantle transnational criminal organizations, according to the statement….

Despite having a high profile among FARC leaders, Santrich and Márquez have so far not delivered on the promises made when they announced their return to arms in August 2019. Their group does not have an official name, does not appear to be playing a major role in Colombia or Venezuela’s criminal landscape, and has mostly been seen trying to forge alliances with other ex-FARC Mafia factions and criminal actors.

A recent report appeared to confirm Santrich’s participation in a 2017 cocaine shipment sent to the Sinaloa Cartel and on to the United States. But it seems Washington’s focus on these two leaders is part of a broader campaign targeting Maduro and any of his alleged collaborators.

He said political forces from "both from the West and from the East" had concentrated their interests in Belarus, and that "certain forces" had intensified their efforts, according to the official BelTA news agency. He did not give details to substantiate his comments or say which foreign country was involved, although relations with Russia have been strained in recent months. "That was the goal. The masks were torn not only from certain puppets we had here, but also from puppeteers who sit outside Belarus," he said.

On Thursday the authorities arrested his most serious opponent, Viktor Babariko, who was the head of the local unit of Russia's Gazprombank before running for president. A top security official said Babariko was controlled by Russian "puppeteers." Ties between the two traditional allies have been strained by Russia's decision to scale back subsidies and oil supplies to its neighbour. Belarus has also resisted Russian calls for closer economic union.

https://parkchestertimes.com/occasio-cortez-aint-democrat-bullies-journalists-michelle-caruso-cabrera

New York Congressional candidate, Michelle Caruso-Cabrera, has condemned the behavior of the representative of New York's 14th congressional district, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for demanding that reporters leave the room before she took the stage at debate organized by Parkchester Times.

Caruso-Cabrera, who expressed her displeasure over the behavior on her Facebook page on Wednesday June 17, 2020, said that such behavior was temperamentally unsuited for a democrat.

She said, "At tonight's Parkchester Times debate, in behavior more appropriate for a temperamental princess than an elected Member of Congress, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez demanded that reporters and audience members leave the room before she took the stage.

"She left the residents of the 14th District with a malfunctioning Facebook feed that could scarcely be heard."

Caruso-Cabrera noted that AOC, who is clearly in favor of censorship, is not a Democrat, "not even a Democratic Socialist".

"She is a Socialist. This conduct would make the Politburo blush. She threw out residents of the 14th Congressional District who wanted to attend this debate.

"She threw out reporters who have put themselves and their families at risk day and night these past two months covering breaking stories related to COVID and social justice.

"AOC refused to participate in this debate until journalists shamed her into doing it…and boy, did she get her revenge on all of them tonight by having them tossed out of the debate hall.

https://www.freightwaves.com/news/employee-headcount-at-us-class-1-operations-tumbles-17-in-may

Rail employment in the U.S. Class I operations fell below 120,000 workers in May, reaching a new low as the railroads trimmed their workforce levels to match the steep declines in rail volumes.

May’s overall headcount among the U.S.operations of the Class I railroads totaled 118,880, a 16.9% drop from May 2019 and a nearly 4.5% decline from April 2020, according to freight rail data submitted to the Surface Transportation Board (STB). The total is the lowest since at least January 2012, which is the earliest date that FreightWaves has data available.

Of May’s total, headcount levels within the train and engine crew category, which tends to be more sensitive to demand for freight rail service, totaled 43,660, a whopping 25.7% decrease from 60,256 in May 2019 and a 10.3% decline from April 2020.

The reorganization comes as CSX terminated 86 employees, each of whom has been offered a severance package and other support to help with their transition, according to the company.

“Last week CSX announced the realignment of responsibilities to better reflect our business needs and to be more productive and efficient. The changes followed a careful review of our management organization that considered what work we should be focused on and whether that work resides in the right place in the organization,” CSX said. “The synergies achieved through these realignments unfortunately resulted in the reduction of some management positions across the company.”

Meanwhile, Norfolk Southern (NYSE: NSC) also said last week it would furlough some employees as a result of idling the Bellevue (Ohio) hump yard and transitioning to flat switching there.

https://www.businessinsider.com/robert-lighthizer-trump-us-will-push-off-uk-trade-deal-with-the-uk-over-food-standards-2020-6

The US will not sign a free trade deal with the UK if its farmers cannot sell meat and other agricultural goods to Britain without barriers, the Trump administration's most senior trade representative has warned.

Robert Lighthizer, the US Trade Representative, told the House of Representative's Ways and Means Committee on Monday that the Trump administration would "push this off" if the UK government did not accept US demands on food standards.

He warned that whatever happens in trade talks with Boris Johnson's UK government, the US is "not going to be in a position where our farmers are treated unfairly."

Agriculture is perhaps the most contentious issue in the UK's talks with the US over a post-Brexit trade deal.

"It is the National Chicken Council's position that any free trade deal be just that – free and fair – unfettered by any tariff or non-tariff barriers," they said.

"Our US negotiators have made it clear that they expect any trade agreement between the US and UK to include US agriculture, including US chicken."
