The Dems were traditionally opposed to open borders, because their largest constituency had been blue collar workers/labor. Labor unions don't like competition. But with the blending/blurring of the two parties, and the emergence of Trump, they lost working class support. They had to switch to open borders in order to shore up their support by importing new voters and securing the latinos.
And also, because their masters want to flood the country and mongrelize the country.
