Michael Pack

After a delay of two years, on Thursday the U.S. Senate confirmed Michael Pack as the new chief executive officer of the U.S. Agency for Global Media, which oversees Voice of America. About time!

Pack’s confirmation follows a period of unconscionable delay, strategizing, and obstructionism by Democratic members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He and his family have been in limbo for much too long.

This behavior culminated in a lengthy rant by Sen. Robert Menendez, D-N.J., who has been a key member of the opposition, and who recently demanded a delay of the vote because of an official investigation of Pack’s finances that Menendez himself had instigated the day before.

Despite this, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., eventually moved the nomination, pressured by the White House. The final vote came in at 53-38, with Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., voting with the Republicans.

Why was Pack’s nomination to lead the $700 million agency that oversees U.S. civilian media and communication assets so controversial? The fact is that even though Pack is well-qualified for the post, anti-Trump media forces have fanned the flames with scare-mongering, speculation, and very few facts.

This opposition includes some inside the U.S. Agency for Global Media who have powerful allies among the so-called mainstream media. The oft-repeated, but unsubstantiated allegation is that Pack will turn the agenda into a propaganda shop for the Trump administration.

There is bipartisan recognition of the need to reform the U.S. international broadcasting complex. In 2013, then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing, “The Broadcasting Board of Governors is practically defunct in terms of its capability to be able to tell a message around the world.”

It was President Barack Obama who signed into law the legislation that created the CEO position, for which Pack was just confirmed. This bill also disbanded the nine-member board that had been acting as a dysfunctional collective executive of the agency.

Allegations have arisen that President Donald Trump disbanded the board. No, Obama did, and did so because it wasn’t working. To his credit, Obama laid the groundwork for a more streamlined and better functioning broadcasting agency.

As reported this week by CBS News and other media, Hillary Clinton, former Secretary of State and unsuccessful Democratic Party candidate for president in 2016, said in discussing her recently published book: “I had not drafted a concession speech.” “I’d been working on a victory speech,” she laughed as she recalled last year’s election night, CBS News reported.

U.S. taxpayer-funded ($221 million in FY 2017) Voice of America (VOA) was even more confident of Clinton’s victory. Throughout the 2016 election campaign, the Voice of America violated its VOA Charter, which is U.S. law, by posting one-sided videos, such as the one below, in which Donald Trump was called “punk,” “dog,” “pig,” “con,” “buls*t artist,” “mutt,” “idiot,” “fool,” “bozo,” and “blatantly stupid.” On their personal Facebook pages, some VOA reporters posted memes showing Trump with a Nazi swastika over his head and as a male sex organ. One called him “Fckface Von Clownstick.” Like Hillary Clinton, they clearly did not think that their favorite candidate could possibly lose, but she did.

Might be worth looking into some of the old twitter feeds of the fired VOA clowns

If you listen to much of the media, Seattle’s anarchist-occupied section is part street party, part SJW indoctrination center. It’s certainly the latter, but it’s perhaps less of a carnival despite Police Chief Carmen Best’s insistence that it’s not a “cop-free zone.”

Last week an unwilling resident found himself and his business subjected to crime after a CHOP speaker urged the crowd to attack, and neither the police nor the fire department showed up to help him.

Today there’s a report of a murder, followed by another shooting.

No additional detail is available yet. Journalist Omari Salisbury tweets that he may have an update later today.

Seattle’s Mayor Jenny Durkan and Gov. Jay Inslee could restore order at any time. They are choosing not to. Both are Democrats. They’re allowing this.

t least two people were shot and one was killed inside Seattle's Capitol Hill Organized Protest (CHOP) area early Saturday morning, and police say they are investigating despite it being in a "no-cop" zone of the city.

Videos recorded Saturday morning show volunteer medics scrambling to help the purported victims after Seattle Police Department radio dispatchers received multiple reports of three to six gunshots around 2:20 a.m. People involved in the incident were seen fleeing the scene north from 10th Avenue and East Pine street in the city's Capitol Hill autonomous protest zone, also called CHAZ. Seattle Police abandoned the closest East Precinct building on June 8th after days of confrontations with protesters in the wake of George Floyd's death while in the custody of Minneapolis police.

Police confirmed the shooting to Newsweek Saturday but offered no additional details.

Police arrived on the scene on foot and prepared with anti-protest gear at the border of the citizen reclaimed protest zone. East Precinct police radio chatter said officers who arrived on the scene were collecting shell casings and evidence, and the second victim had a gunshot wound to the arm and chest.

Seattle Fire had been called to the scene to treat the victim, but they had already been transported by volunteers to Harborview, Capitol Hill Seattle Blog reported Saturday.
