Friday protest turns tense in front of Austin police headquarters

Not long after, they reached the police headquarters at Eighth Street and Interstate 35, where they pushed aside the barriers and blockades and began to chant outside the doors. Some protesters took down the American and Texas flags outside the building and replacing them with a transgender rights flag, then someone burned the American flag.

After a few protesters banged on the doors, several officers came outside and stood outside the building. One protester was arrested, but it was not immediately clear on what charge.

After protesters walked away from the front doors, they encountered officers along the building's gates on Eighth Street. A brief scuffle broke out, with both protesters and police attempting to push the other side back, and officers pepper-sprayed some protesters.

Officers returned to the other side of the gate, and some protesters shook and hit the gates while officers stood on the other side. Eventually, the march continued down Eighth Street.
