Exposing a lot of hidden filth can go a long way to enabling America (and world) to regenerate. It's like lifting a rug, under which a lot of dirt has been swept. Out comes the broom. It's an an old story, isn't it? Humans being humans will find new (and old) ways to embrace evil, then the uncompromised fight back. Hopefully this "sweeping" will go a long way toward defining a period of time with harsh lessons of what not to believe, who not to trust, how not to think, and who not to vote for! think about it. In days of old (not long ago), all they had as proof of warning was the written word, plus maybe some nice sketches and paintings to illustrate their points. Today, we have a massive library of images, film, video and audio to back up the morality tales and lessons. Maps and memes alone go a long way toward illustrating essential points. We didn't have that ability to create such tools of learning and sharing as little as 25 years ago.

All well and good, except this is precisely what the justice department and FBI were created for, to do the "heavy lifting" for us. You know, the little people, the US taxpayers providing their salaries. Surely there are plenty of federal laws already in the books that would serve to stop the privacy abuses by social media. An out front FBI director working with the executive branch explaining all this would go a long way. And if there is obstruction within justice or the executive office, then fire and replace them!
