I was a nascar fan for many years. It was door to door no frills racing with big cars, big engines and big personalities. If your team was dominant they could win the Winston Cup in the first half of the season. That made the other teams race even harder for points. Points equaled money.

Then when they ignored known safety innovations such as the hans device and the soft walls they had a rash of avoidable, preventable deaths which in 2001 resulted in the death of Dale Earnhardt, the sports biggest star. Many turned it off after that tragedy.

When they went to the stupidly contrived "chase" in 2004, resetting points toward the end of the season they lost a ton of audience.

Now I hear they have "competition caution's" and breaks in the race which I assume cost them another shit ton of audience.

I wouldn't know because I haven't watched it in 15 years.

This should be the death blow to Nascar as a major league player. I'll bet the drop to an audience share like that of formula E.
