What do we know about "acting" and "actors"?

"Actors" aren't meant to be the permanent, so they are able to do more because they don't have to care how other staff (subordinates) look at or think of them.
The longer an "actor" is in place, the more they can effect, while waiting for that permanent nominee to be confirmed.
Perhaps that is the reasoning behind Graham's magnanimous gesture to the NY Ds - let them think they have some degree of power and control over this. The longer they stall, the more politically incorrect and disrupting changes they can make.
Also consider another aspect of this scenario - Schumer & Gillibrand grilling the nominee mercilessly in a public spectacle, like Kavanaugh… shooting their wad and coming across as mean-spirited, petty and vindictive (even more), which considering the cumulative disgust that moderate Ds are feeling will cause more people to hop off the fence. Maybe S&G torpedo the nominee completely after all that? Well, our "actor" is still "acting." And still disrupting, on to another nominee and that process, during the election time, over Thanksgiving and Christmas into the New Year (Congress isn't very active), so our "actor" can accomplish even more.
And don't forget that as the summer passes into Autumn, as Barr said, Durham will have things going on, so that is enormous pressure on Ds & DS, which will make them more hysterical and irrational, which will add to the disgust of moderate Ds (after a summer of rioting and D's + mockingbirds' defense of it).
This may or may not be the play, but it is worth considering.
