Where I grew up, we'd collect piles of chicken shit and after a couple weeks of fermenting, dig the soil under the pile up about 2 inches of off the top. We'd strain it through filters with PGA (Pure Grain Alcohol) and make our own Nitrite crystals. Just a couple grams would cause a real flash and the amount of a typical black cat bottle rocket would blow a limb about 2 inches in diameter off a tree. Of course, we'd make much bigger than that but there was a diminishing return that allowed the biggest stick we could make to be about the size of a thumb. That much would blow a hole into the ground about 3 feet deep and 6 feet wide.
