Unfortunately, right after such a moment in time where the entire medical profession would have to admit they were denying 'cures' to patients for decades (don't think that moment would ever happen as it would open them up to a myriad of large court cases by individuals and groups of people) - right after such a moment a massive counter movement would begin that would Bluntly then claim that an extra 50,000 people surviving year after year was unsustainable in terms of 'population management'
In a sense, they'd come clean, they'd admit one of the big goals of treatment v cure is 'population management'.
And then things would get very dicey indeed - a Satanist's paradise; who would be asked to sacrifice themselves each year for the 'common good'? Who should get Cures and who should be denied them? Control of who survives for birth and control of who survives in old age - in the open. State or indeed Private Companies deciding when your time is up. Like I say, a Satanist's wet dream - Logan's Run.
Gotta be Ultra Careful into this new age, wherever it takes us.
