24-Year-Old Madison Cawthorn Wins GOP Nomination For Mark Meadows’s Seat In Stunning Upset
Madison Cawthorn, the 24-year-old CEO of a real estate investment company and a motivational speaker, won the Republican primary runoff in North Carolina’s 11th Congressional District on Tuesday.
Cawthorn had received more than 65% of the vote against Lynda Bennett by the time poll watchers called the race.
Cawthorn is likely to win the November election for the safe Republican seat, which was previously held by former North Carolina Rep. Mark Meadows, who resigned his seat to join the Trump administration as President Donald Trump’s chief of staff earlier this year.
If Cawthorn wins, he would be one of the youngest people ever elected to Congress.

Shake-Up: Hogan Gidley To Leave White House And Become Trump Campaign’s New National Press Secretary
Principal Deputy Press Secretary Hogan Gidley will reportedly leave the White House to become the new national press secretary for President Donald Trump’s 2020 reelection campaign.
Politico first reported the news of the departure on Tuesday afternoon and claimed that negotiations between Gidley and the campaign have lasted roughly one month.
Gidley will join the Trump campaign’s communications team headed by Tim Murtaugh. He will fill the position vacated by current White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany when she made the opposite transition in the spring. Reports claim that after being appointed to his current position in 2017, Gidley drew Trump’s favor by making frequent appearances on Fox News. Prior to joining the administration, he was a CBS contributor and served as a campaign adviser on Gov. Mike Huckabee’s 2016 presidential bid.
Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser, said that Gidley’s “two decades of prior campaign experience combined with his deep knowledge of the administration make him an invaluable addition.”
“Hogan Gidley has been at the President’s side for three years and now he joins the fight to re-elect him,” Trump 2020 campaign manager Brad Parscale said of Gidley. “He is a talented advocate and defender of the President and his policies and is never afraid to go into battle with hostile reporters and television hosts. Hogan is a great addition to the team and makes us even stronger.”
Gidley himself said he is “overwhelmingly humbled and deeply appreciative to President Trump for giving me a front row seat to witness history.”
“My time at the White House has truly been a blessing beyond measure and getting to speak directly to the American people on behalf of this President has been an incredible honor,” he continued. “President Trump’s record-setting accomplishments have improved the lives of all Americans, and I can’t wait to get over to the campaign and fight for his re-election.”

Riots, Protests In Portland Cost The City More Than $30 Million

Protests and riots in Portland, Oregon have cost the city and local businesses around $30 million, the Portland Tribune reported Tuesday.
Local businesses reported a total loss of $23.2 million due to the protests, the Portland Business Alliance (PBA) said according to the report. A PBA survey found that most of the losses were because of store closures, which business owners said cost them a total of $18.4 million. The other $4.8 million was lost due to looting, vandalism, arson or other damage caused by rioters. _
PBA spokesperson Amy Lewin said that “it should be assumed that the total loss is higher for both physical damage and lost revenue.”
“However, we clearly recognize that systemic racism is the root cause of the community outrage resulting in ongoing demonstrations,” Lewin added. “We stand with our community members’ expression of frustration.”

Portland’s protest-related police expenditures – totaling more than $6.2 million, according to Portland Police Chief Chuck Lovell – brought the cost of protests up to over $30 million.
Lovell said that the $6.2 million doesn’t include overtime pay or emergency repairs for equipment or buildings that were damaged during the riots.
The total cost of police expenditures from the protests is “staggering,” Lovell said in a press release Tuesday, according to the Portland Tribune. “Many of us would rather those funds be used for the reinvestment so many truly desire,” he added.
Nationwide protests began May 25 following the death of George Floyd, a black man who died in police custody in Minneapolis. Some protests that began peacefully turned into violent riots that destroyed communities across the country.

President Trump's brother trying to stop Mary Trump's family tell-all book: report
President Donald Trump's brother, Robert Trump, has gone to court in an attempt to stop his niece Mary Trump from publishing a family tell-all book, multiple reports said Tuesday.
Mary Trump is the daughter of Fred Trump Jr., the president's older brother, who died in 1981. Her book is titled “Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man."
The book is set to be published July 28 by Simon & Schuster, with a description saying she "shines a bright light on the dark history of their family in order to explain how her uncle became the man who now threatens the world’s health, economic security, and social fabric."
The motion, filed by Robert Trump's lawyers, seeks an injunction to prevent Mary Trump and the publishing company from releasing the book. They argue that family members had signed a settlement agreement two decades ago related to the will of Donald Trump’s father, New York real estate developer Fred Trump. The agreement included a confidentially clause saying they would not "publish any account concerning the litigation or their relationship,” unless agreed upon by all parties.
Robert Trump said he never consented to the book being published and argued it was prohibited by the accord reached in 2001.
“President Trump and his siblings are seeking to suppress a book that will discuss matters of utmost public importance," attorney Theodore Boutrous Jr., a representative for Mary Trump, said in a statement. "They are pursuing this unlawful prior restraint because they do not want the American people to know the truth. The courts will not tolerate this brazen and baseless effort to squelch speech in violation of the First Amendment.”
President Trump previously said during an interview last week that Mary Trump is "not allowed" to write the book due to the nondisclosure agreement she signed.
"She's not allowed to write a book," Trump told Axios. "You know, when we settled with her and her brother, who I do have a good relationship with — she's got a brother, Fred, who I do have a good relationship with, but when we settled, she has a total … signed a nondisclosure."

A twisted piece of twine that looks like a noose was found hanging from a tree at Sonoma Raceway in California on Saturday, track officials have revealed.
The discovery came one day before a similar item was discovered in the garage of African American NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace at Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama on Sunday, which prompted an FBI investigation and outpouring of support for Wallace from his colleagues before the start of the Geico 500 on Monday afternoon.

Wallace was instrumental in NASCAR’s decision on June 10 to ban the Confederate flag from its events, which was followed by protestors displaying the flag outside the Talladega track.

80-pound iguana found inside Florida pizza restaurant's freezer

A dead 80-pound iguana was found in the freezer of a pizza restaurant in Florida.
West Palm Beach pizzeria Pizza Mambo was allegedly storing the giant lizard after it was given to the owner as a gift to eat later, the Florida Sun Sentinel reported.
According to reports, the iguana was discovered by state inspectors who were performing a health code check.
Though the lizard was housed in a separate mini-freezer, and not with the restaurant’s food storage, the discovery was still counted as a violation of health code. The lizard was reportedly discarded immediately afterward.
Among the 27 violations the eatery faced were rodent droppings, dead roaches, food with “mold-like growths” and equipment that was not properly cleaned, the report shared.
The restaurant was forced to temporarily close on June 18 for a day, the Sun-Sentinel reported, due to the violations, 10 of which were classified as high-priority
