Deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein directed his best-known accuser to have sex with former Israeli PM Ehud Barak, according to a sealed deposition – one of many papers lawyer Alan Dershowitz is trying to use to clear his own name.

Lawyers for Dershowitz, who was a friend of Epstein as well as a member of his legal defense team, released the claim about Barak in a Tuesday court filing, attempting to cast doubt on allegations made by accuser Virginia Roberts Giuffre, one of the first Epstein victims to go public with her story.

Pointing to the “denials and disclaimers” issued by the powerful men Giuffre said she’d had sex with, they suggested her word had been “thoroughly discredited by her proven lies.” If their hope was to smear Giuffre, however, it didn’t quite go as planned, instead renewing media interest in the suspects named by the former Epstein “sex slave.”

Dershowitz’s legal team obtained the sealed deposition from a 2016 defamation suit Giuffre filed against Epstein’s alleged madam, Ghislaine Maxwell, his lawyer admitted in court on Tuesday. The document names not only Barak, but also Victoria’s Secret CEO Les Wexner, along with several others she had already accused publicly.

Howard Cooper, a lawyer for the embattled Harvard professor, urged a judge to turn over even more sealed documents from the Maxwell suit, insisting they were relevant to Dershowitz’s own defamation case against Giuffre, who has long claimed she was forced to have sex with Dershowitz as well (a claim he fervently denies). However, Giuffre’s lawyers argued against the move, concerned that her adversary’s legal team would take the information out of context and twist it for their purposes.

Lawyers for Maxwell actually agreed with Giuffre, reasoning there was little overlap between the two defamation cases (and presumably not wanting further details of Maxwell’s alleged crimes to emerge). Lawyers for a mysterious “John Doe” also concurred, citing the need to protect the privacy of others whose names have not yet been made public.

Trump Invokes Defense Production Act to Produce Hypersonic Missile Parts, Space Launch Systems

US President Donald Trump has invoked a wartime executive power giving him the authority to mobilize US industry, saying that with presidential direction, US industry "cannot reasonably be expected" to provide the materials necessary for hypersonic weapons development "adequately and in a timely manner."

On Wednesday, Trump invoked the Defense Production Act of 1950, using the measure to direct civilian industry's production of hypersonic weapons components.

"I hereby determine, pursuant to section 303(a)(5) of the Act, that the industrial base production capability for ultra-high and high temperature composites for hypersonic, strategic missile, and space launch systems is essential to the national defense," Trump said in the directive.

"Without Presidential action under section 303 of the Act, United States industry cannot reasonably be expected to provide the production capability for ultra-high and high temperature composites for hypersonic, strategic missile, and space launch systems adequately and in a timely manner," the order continues. "Further, purchases, purchase commitments, or other action pursuant to section 303 of the Act are the most cost-effective, expedient, and practical alternative method for meeting the need for this critical capability."

Responsibility for deadly border clash ‘lies entirely’ with India, Beijing claims

The deadly skirmish that erupted in a disputed area in the Himalayas last week should be blamed squarely on India, China’s defense ministry has argued. New Delhi has disputed Beijing’s account of the clash.

“The responsibility for the China-India border conflict lies entirely with India. China hopes to maintain peace in the border areas,” Ministry of National Defense spokesman Senior Colonel Wu Qian said on Wednesday, according to a translation by CNBC.

Soldiers from the two nations found themselves in a violent face-off last Monday in the Galwan Valley in Ladakh. Twenty Indian troops reportedly died in the incident. New Delhi has claimed that as many as 40 Chinese soldiers perished in the battle, but this figure has been dismissed as “fake news” by Beijing.

China maintains that Indian soldiers have been crossing into its territory since early May in an attempt to impede Chinese activity in the area. But this claim has been disputed by New Delhi, which insists that the Chinese army started the flare-up in tensions after attempting to erect a post on the Indian side of the Line of Actual Control.

The defense ministers of both nations were reportedly set to meet on the sidelines of the Victory Day parade held in Moscow on Wednesday, but New Delhi later denied that a summit would take place.

If you follow the Federalist, you’d see that they’re journalists focused on exposing corruption.” Whether NBC’s activity in attempting “to destroy its competitor” is legally permissible under Anti-Trust law is questionable, in Fitton’s words. Ultimately, however, “we think it’s always philosophy, but maybe it’s just money.”

Reacting to mounting pressure to “censor everything,” Facebook has created a “supposedly independent censorship board,” Fitton notes. However, as Fitton states,

“Guess who has significant ties to most of the members on the board? George Soros, the left-wing billionaire who has a radical agenda. He’s a pretty influential character with this board.”

“How do you think Judicial Watch is going to do with that board, how do you think the president will do with that board? How do you think you’ll do with that board?,” Fitton continues. As a Judicial Watch Corruption Chronicles article notes, “the censorship board is stacked with Leftists,” – specifically a group of Soros “acolytes” who have worked in or in close collaboration with the left-wing billionaire’s Open Society Foundation. Among the standouts is Andrew Sajó, the founding Dean of Legal Studies at Soros’ Central European University. Sajó was one of the ECHR judges in an Italian case (Latusi v. Italy) that ruled unanimously that the display of a crucifix in public schools in Italy violates the European Convention on Human Rights.

“I could go on and on with the names of these radical leftists, many of whom aren’t even Americans, trying to figure out how the First Amendment applies here in the US,” Fitton continues. Thankfully, in Fitton’s view, the Administration is “considering undoing the liability protections that these big tech companies have.” After all, “they’ll pretend to believe in debates so that they can win, but if the debate gets in the way, they’ll skip it.”

Knesset advances bill to enable Shin Bet surveillance in coronavirus fight

Defense Ministry opening new coronavirus hotels * Orders to call up Homefront Command reservists extended

The cabinet and the Knesset voted on Wednesday to advance legislation that would enable the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) to use its digital tools to to track coronavirus patients. The bill passed a preliminary reading in the Knesset plenum by a vote of 44 to 33, but still must pass additional readings in a Knesset committee and the plenum next week in order to become law.

At the cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that he wants to accelerate the development of an app to allow for effective contact tracing. However, he admitted that "this will take time – weeks and I hope not months. Until then, we are seeking to supplement" our efforts with the Shin Bet surveillance tool.

He said that he hopes the coronavirus spread will slow and there will not be a need to use it.

At press time on Wednesday evening, the Health Ministry reported an increase of 265 patients within the last day, bringing the number of active cases to 5,520. The number of people with serious cases is 45, including 28 who are intubated.

The Health Ministry also reported a record number of people screened on Tuesday: 19,533.

Netanyahu has been pushing to restart the surveillance program to help stop the coronavirus spread since last weekend, despite privacy concerns. On Monday, the coronavirus cabinet started a discussion on the subject, but the attorney-general said it was a discussion appropriate for the cabinet. The ministers agreed to push the talk off until Sunday. However, the increasing daily number of cases caused the meeting to be moved up.

The Ministerial Committee on Declaring Restricted Zones also met Wednesday to determine if additional cities should be closed, such as Modi’in Illit and Bat Yam, where the infection rates are high. At press time, no decision had yet been made, other than to reduce the narrowing of the red zone in Tiberias to three stress, effective immediately.

Most recently 92,000 pounds of frozen chicken was recalled because it contained “blue plastic pieces,” while McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets have been found to have “silly putty” chemicals in them. In fact, some researchers estimate that today’s chicken is so full of chemicals that it only contains 51% actual meat.

US Slaps Sanctions on Five Iranian Ship Captains Who Delivered 1.5 Mln Barrels of Oil to Venezuela

Earlier this month, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi indicated Tehran’s readiness to go ahead with its oil shipments to Venezuela if "Caracas demands" more such supplies from Iran.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced on Wednesday that Washington had imposed sanctions on the captains of five Iranian tankers over oil deliveries to Venezuela.

“Today, the United States is sanctioning five Iranian ship captains who delivered around 1.5 million barrels of Iranian gasoline to Venezuela in support of the illegitimate Maduro regime”, Pompeo said.

The US secretary of state also reiterated the White House’s willingness to support Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido as Washington seeks the overthrow of the South American country’s President Nicolas Maduro.

The statement comes after the US Treasury Department announced that it was slapping Venezuela-related sanctions on four companies and four oil tankers belonging to these entities over their alleged involvement in the oil trade with the Latin American country.

This followed remarks by the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' (IRGC) chief commander Hossein Salami, who praised Iran's resolve to send fuel tankers to Venezuela in the face of US threats to take action against Tehran and Caracas.

“We showcased our might, and our biggest display of power was the imposition of our will [on the enemies] and the sailing of [oil tankers] through high seas from the Persian Gulf towards Venezuela”, Salami told journalists earlier in June.

He spoke after Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi indicated Tehran’s readiness earlier this month to go ahead with its oil shipments to Venezuela if "Caracas demands more [such] supplies from Iran", which is practicing "its free trade rights with” the country.

The statement was preceded in May by five Iranian tankers, the Clavel, the Faxon, the Fortune, the Forest, and the Petunia, delivering about 1.5 million barrels of oil to Venezuela, hit by a serious fuel shortage caused by US sanctions.

In a separate development last month, the Trump administration reportedly said that it was considering new sanctions and "other legal steps to disrupt Iranian oil exports to Venezuela" in response to what Washington describes as Tehran's attempts "to make inroads into Latin America".

US Sanctions Against Venezuela, Iran

Washington started slapping tough economic sanctions on the Venezuelan economy, which is in the grip of an ongoing crisis, back in 2018 in order to oust democratically elected President Nicolas Maduro.

Part of the US’ sanction pressure was freezing the US-based assets of the national oil and gas company Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA), something that was slammed by Caracas as an unlawful move and an attempt by Washington to get its hands on Venezuela's oil reserves.

Iran, in turn, is now also under US sanctions, which were reinstated in May 2018, when President Donald Trump announced Washington's unilateral withdrawal from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

The move led to growing US-Iranian tensions, which were exacerbated after top IRGC General Qasem Soleimani was killed in a US drone strike on his car at Baghdad International Airport in early January - an attack that was authorised by President Donald Trump.

‘Do Me a Favour’: New ‘Biden-Poroshenko’ Tapes Show Scale of US Meddling in Ukraine’s Politics

In May, Ukrainian MP Andrii Derkach released audio recordings allegedly proving collusion between former US Vice President Joe Biden and Ukraine’s then-President Petro Poroshenko in relation to the firing of the country’s prosecutor general, who was investigating the gas company Burisma, where Biden’s son Hunter was working.

New tapes, allegedly featuring phone conversations between presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden and former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, as well as documents showing money transfers from Burisma to Hunter Biden’s co-founded Rosemont Seneca Bohai company, were released by Ukrainian MP Andrii Derkach and former prosecutor Konstantin Kulyk on Monday.

Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, served on Burisma’s board from 2014 to 2019. The company was under a corruption-related investigation by Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin, who was fired from his position in 2016. It was alleged that his ousting happened under pressure from officials in the Obama administration. In May, MP Derkach released the first batch of recordings allegedly featuring conversations between Poroshenko and two US officials, Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of State John Kerry. In the tapes, the authenticity of which remains unconfirmed, the two officials are heard pressuring the Ukrainian president to dismiss Shokin from his post, arguing that otherwise a $1 billion loan guarantee from the US to Ukraine would be withheld.

According to Kulyk, there is now evidence proving that “Burisma representatives were ready to give a bribe of $50 million” to the Ukrainian government in order to get the case against the company closed.

The former prosecutor also argued that Burisma’s owner Mykola Zlochevsky was complicit in “money laundering”, using the Ukrainian gas company and Rosemont Seneca Bohai, which is associated with Biden’s family.

“It was through Rosemont Seneca Bohai that Burisma transferred money to Biden for assistance in avoiding criminal liability”, he said during a press conference.

The revealed documents also list payments of $3.4 million from Burisma to Rosemont Seneca Bohai for “consulting services”. However, according to Kulyk, who was investigating the “theft” of "billions" from Ukraine over several years, this money was destined for the “political protection of Burisma” by then-Vice President Joe Biden.

Reformers want California police to stop using a gang database seen as racially biased

Police reform activists this week called on California’s top law enforcement officer to stop use of a secretive and problem-plagued database of suspected gang members, frustrated that it continues to function under rules they say disproportionately target Black and Latino men and that were ordered fixed by the state Legislature nearly three years ago.

The database, known as CalGang, is used by law enforcement agencies across the state to store names and personal details of nearly 90,000 people suspected of being active gang members or possibly associating with them.

In 2016, a state audit found that CalGang was riddled with questionable entries and errors such as the inclusion of year-old children. More recently, the LAPD has investigated officers accused of falsifying information in order to add people to the list. The department announced last week that it was suspending use of CalGang.

But the imposition of statewide regulations — which were legally mandated to be completed by Jan. 1, until California Atty. Gen. Xavier Becerra extended the deadline for six months — is overdue, with no clear end in sight. This leaves CalGang functioning largely under old rules that some argue constitute racial profiling. Prompted by the protests over the death of George Floyd, police reform activists want to stop agencies from adding names or using existing names for investigations until the system is revised.

“Millions of people exercising their First Amendment rights these past weeks have demonstrated the insufficiency of the California Department of Justice’s actions to meet their longstanding demand that law enforcement treat everyone with respect and dignity,” read a letter sent Monday to Becerra and signed by more than three dozen organizations, including the ACLU. “Nowhere is that more true than in the department’s ineffective effort to reform law enforcement’s use of the CalGang database.”

Becerra’s office said Tuesday it was reviewing the letter and that “the rule-making process takes time.”

“The Legislature directed our office to develop regulations to improve the quality and integrity of CalGang, and the proposed regulations are intended to do just that,” the statement continued.

In 2017, state lawmakers passed a measure to place CalGang under the purview of Becerra’s Department of Justice. Becerra was charged with purging the database of old or inaccurate records and creating new rules for adding people. Advocates hoped those rules would diminish the ability of officers to use only subjective criteria, such as the color of clothing or the area in which a person is seen, as evidence of gang membership. While thousands of records were purged, thousands more have been added in recent years.
