Thank you for that. The Morrill Tariff was an egregious act against southerners for nothing more than their geographic proximity. The founders must have been spinning in their graves. My ancestors fought on both sides of that war and against the Brits in others. The Confederates had no slaves but Redlegs and Jayhawkers burned and stole, killed elderly and fenced furniture and valuables in Lawrence at their little auction. It was terrible and inexcusable and I have it all. History cannot be changed. I can forgive ignorance for the sake of unity, but stupidity is more difficult. They were all Americans and they all fought to defend their homeland and defend what was right and just in their circumstances at the time. There was good and bad on both sides, I'm very sure but I honor my Confederate ancestors ever bit as much as those who fought for the same reasons during the American Revolution.
