Pool is 4 feet deep…you will rarely see a above ground pool that's deeper without a special liner…I know…I worked for a large pool supply company years ago….word has it the authorities had called a Electrician in hours after they found the victims…Electrocution seemed to be the reason…until this slide….now her job at the Government could still be at play…not hard to rig a pool pump….I've seen some grounds rusted away a few times.

It is possible, with a custom liner…they dig out half the pool into the ground..if you look at the picture, it looks like the ground is on a slope…mine was a plywood walls/custom liner 4' - 8' I had to dig 4 feet into the ground the liner were custom made and a small fortune…

 

could it be possible that the owners thought the pool was just 4' all the way…sure…there was plenty of time when my kids went swimming they would step over to far to the deeper end…scared the shit out of you if you can't swim…don't know what happened here without getting a better look at the pool.
