According to some at UN Security Council today, it was chlorine gas mixed with sarin gas. Chlorine to make the mixture heavy, to make it go down to the basement where people went to escape the gas.
But would heavy atoms push down light atoms in a gas? Wouldn't the atoms separate, sarin (presumably lighter) rising, chlorine sinking?
I think the story that many countries told of this gas violates basic chemistry. But I could be wrong if someone wants to correct me.
