It's not the tornadoes in TX you have to worry about…it's the damned hail.

Anyway, I've been in TX a couple years now and have found it to be one of the more no-nonsense states. Still a lot of good salt of the earth type people, but unfortunately a lot of libtards are flocking to the big cities of TX as they the hell holes they created in their former liberal cities in California, Chicago, and the east coast. The cities of Dallas, Houston, and Austin are very much blue. Once you get out to the suburbs, it's majority conservative, but still lots of libs. Once you get past the suburbs, it's all red-blooded patriots. The economy is great with lots of jobs and opportunities, but it's expensive. All the people moving here (DFW) are driving up the costs of everything. We pay no state income tax, but have a heavy property tax on our homes. I easily pay 8% of my pre-tax income in property tax on my home. It is an evil tax, because you pay more in taxes every year regardless of whether you make more income or not. I fucking hate that aspect and would rather just pay a flat state income tax. It would be more fair.

Overall a good place, but summers are hotter than hell for a solid 4 months, and there is not a lot of natural beauty. I'd really like a to find a freedom loving place with mountains and more outdoors stuff to do.

Ok, first of all, it's calculated into my mortgage payment and goes into escrow, so there is no way to not pay it without defaulting on my mortgage.

Second…what the hell are you talking about? Of course the state is going to come take your house if you stop paying the taxes. What planet do you live on?

I've never looked at Wyoming, but I would move to Montana in a heartbeat if it wasn't so damned cold. I agree, there is a strong patriot consensus in your part of the country.
