Showed Syracuse NY doctor and pharmacist HHS Azar and POTUS's remarks re hydroxychloroquine June 15, 2020, and despite being in a high risk group still COULD NOT GET HCQ

What the doc said

Physician in town outside city. I asked about hydroxychloroquine as a prophylactic since I'm in a high risk group. I printed out the remarks information below which the doctor totally dismissed. They mentioned that its only for people who need it and there is a shortage.

What the pharmacist said

This was at a large national pharmacy. I showed them the following remarks which they actually read. I asked if there was a shortage of HCQ and they said no but if a lot of seniors asked for it there would be then.

They said Cuomo's rules take precedence over federal rules and they have to abide by the stricter New York rules. Apparently Cuomo won't let docs prescribe HCQ as a prophylactic or early symptoms (when it works best).

At this point, hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine are just like any other approved drug in the United States. They may be used in hospital, they may be used in out-patient, they may be used at home — all subject to a doctor’s prescription. In fact, the FDA’s removal of the EUA takes away what had been a significant misunderstanding by many that had made people think that somehow it could only be used in a hospital setting. And we’ve tried to make that clear throughout.

It’s a drug. It’s approved in the United States. Has been for decades. If a doctor wishes to prescribe it, working with a patient, they may prescribe it for any purpose that they wish to do so. And this actually removes a potential barrier to that.
