Moved to Texas from Illinois 3 years ago. Only regret is I didn’t do so 10 to 20 years earlier. Wife anon and I vote Conservative. Friendliest people I have ever met here. We know nearly every neighbor on our street. Back in Illinois I only knew 2 neighbors after 12 years in my house. Everything is more affordable than Illinois except beer. We bought a house 3 times the size of our old house for 60k more than what we sold our old house for. The weather is great! I love hot weather. Hate snow. Tons to do. Boating, hiking, camping, great restaurants, bars, bands (I love Texas country music), dance halls are outstanding! Got a great little place by my house with a restaurant, beer garden , outdoor stage and dance floor. Dancing with wife anon under the stars on a warm summer evening, drinking cold Shiner after a great meal...heaven! Did I mention how nice people are? Nearly everyone you meet will say “Welcome to Texas” when they find you are from somewhere else. Glad we moved and able to add a couple more Republican voters to our area!

Never once have I encountered that. 2 of my neighbors are black families. Good people. Lots of ex-military in my neighborhood. Polite, respectful and friendly. I have encountered less racism in 3 years here than my whole life in Illinois. White liberals in Illinois are some of the most racist people you will ever encounter when they let down their guard and are sure no black or Hispanic people are around.
